I recently moved and have to take bus and subway to commute to work. From my previous place, I only needed to take the subway to work. Anyway, since I work 5 days a week at most and because of holidays and about 2-3 times a month I work from home, paying per trip was cheaper the the unlimited metrocard which costs $89 dollars per month compared to paying $80 dollars and I get 12 dollar bonus which adds up to $92 dollar worth of rides.
Good thing about metrocard is you can transfer without paying again and can transfer up to two times in 2 hours from the first swipe. About a week ago, I noticed the bus was charging me another fare instead of giving me free transfer. After it happened to me the second time, I asked the driver why is it charging and and he says "I don't know" and there was nothing I can do. If this kept going on, I was gonna lose money so I decided to get the unlimited card instead so I don't have to deal with the hassle.
Today was my second day using the unlimited card and I wanted to get home early because of the thunderstorm and heavy rain that was coming in the evening. I swiped the card and it asked to swipe again, then I swipe again and it says 'Just Used' so I couldn't go in the turnstile. They made the unlimited wait time of 17 minutes for it's next use so people can't abuse it or sell the swipes. I had to wait 17 minutes outside the station and when I finally got to my bus, it started raining heavily and I had to get home all wet. MTA raised the metrocard prices up almost every year and now they are trying to sell the metrocard for $130 dollars. How about providing good reliable service before raising the prices? Fuck MTA!

MTA is always in fucking debt apparently and their only solution is to raise fares. It is goddam bullshit that they can keep doing it while service is crap.
Definitely a big fuck you to MTA from me.
Btw bad luck on getting wet, all I had to do was a short sprint from the bus to the subway station in the rain and after that it was over. :<

yea, MTA is like that, you've got to deal with it.

dude that thunderstorm was ridiculous
could barely see outside my window

That thunderstorm was pretty hardcore. That being said, the MTA is still really cheap compared to other cities mass transit, like DC

I heard the 7 line stopped functioning. Well, this happens almost every time it rains like this... yay for student metrocards though

That huge sudden downpour sucked balls. I arrived to class 5 mins late completely soaked, and the professor docked points from my problem set which I stayed up until 3 finishing because it was "late". I sat in financial accounting really wet and uncomfortable being not very happy haha. Maybe next time I should give my psets to my super responsible friend just in case.

Yea MTA does suck. Luckily for me I only really ride the subway so I avoid the hassle/rage associated with transferring =\

I take the N train to the city 4-5 times a week for college, I always encounter people that cant swipe the card correctly or fast enough. They end up stalling everyone until someone decides to help. Though ,I havent rode the bus since high school, but we had student cards.
And now the N runs local in Manhattan and the W is not in service anymore, it sucks. Especially the N is always under maintenance in Brooklyn.
edit: Lucky that NYU gets their own transportation. D:
