So last year I shot a 77 on a public regulation course in late August. Today I bettered that by a shot. (on a different course) Which is REALLY surprising considering I spent all summer on my ass playing sc.
SO AMAZING! I hit hardly any bad shots all day. 3 birdies, mostly pars and like a triple and a double LOL. (2 bad holes out of 18) Sure I was going out every Tuesday afternoon at home to the range for an hour but I wasn't playing full rounds at all. In fact my coach in Virgina emailed me twice wondering why he hasn't seen me around the course I usually play at all year. I told him I was broke and working (which was partially true) but I was also lazy and didn't feel like working out or compete in any tournaments this year. In high school my handicap was near single digits and I played in tons of junior/junior state tournaments. Ironically just like sc, I was better than most of the people I knew and all my friends but at a competitive level I'd finish middle of the road or suck. lol. (I actually dodged a tournament I should have played in this July for a broodwar lan ROFL, but this year I didn't play in ANYTHING. Way too much time on sc.)
In college I totally fell off the radar. I didn't try out for the golf team (although I think I might have been able to make it if I worked really hard) mainly cuz I was working like 20 hours a week at best buy plus taking 15 or 16 credit hours every semester. Eventually all my money went to school and golf got super expensive so I totally stopped playing. I went from an official USGA 9 handicap to like 18. sc was free and golf was ridiculously expensive. Plus my high school buddies I used to golf with left the area and I went to a college close to home. So I had very few people to play with in my early months of college.
Anyway I'm rambling.
I still love playing. Once I get into a better financial situation and can afford it my goal is to get a professional teaching cert. My friend here who's going into a golf career is trying to talk me into it too. Most golf jobs start in golf management though which starts with bullshit pro shop jobs working full time doing crappy front desk shit in the pro shop for like 30-40k a year. My friend in Connecticut is transferring to a school in Florida to major in golf management. It's a pretty sweet career once you get through the long hours of pro shop bullshit into the better positions. Course professionals make shitloads if u get into the right gig. But u have to be lucky and usually takes years and years and years of grunt work. Anyway yeah I'm too lazy to battle report about today but I played near scratch ALL DAY which was amazing considering I had played no more than 10 rounds all summer. (lots of range work every week for the past 2 months though) I got realllly lucky today, easily 10-15 strokes lower than usual. just one of those days where EVERYTHING was perfect... The course was a fairly easy public course, 67/115 I believe were the rating and slope, (meaning a scratch golfer should shoot 5 shots under par) but my handicap is definitely not even near single digits right now. I went into today hoping to break 85 and I shot a freakin 76 LOL. I'm all nerdern out now, I need to get into a golf club next year again and actually practice hardcore. To get a pro teaching certification u have to go to some place for a week in either PA or NY and pass some written test and play 2 rounds under 82 or something, which I'm sure I could if I put the hours in.
Golf is the shit though. Everyone should play. It's such a good thing to be good at in the business world and it's a good excuse to get outside. Sadist (the real Sadist not that fake Sadistx user) + Micronesia are the only two TL'ers I know who are obsessed (probably even more than I am)
Oh and I'm about to get owned by Hurricane Earl which is gonna pwn us on Friday/Saturday. BM WEATHER.

i cant afford clubs ZZZZzzZZZZZZzzzZZZZZzzzzZZ

grats man I dont keep score when i golf, its more fun that way so i don't know how bad i actually am... lol

love how all the NoVA people are talking so far <3

Yeah clubs are expensive I need new clubs. And just playing alot can get super expensive. Which is the main reason why I stopped playing as much. Just couldn't afford it.
This will change when I start working more though!
I get free range though at a close place to my house cuz the teaching pro is good friends with my Dad (so I get free lessons too which is AMAZING)

Christ, you're really, really good.
I took lessons for years and I hit like a 86 this past Sunday. I'm constantly amazed at how people can keep repeatedly make par or better.
Congratulations

Damn Rob, I didn't even know you played, although the more I think about it you look like a golfer lol. I haven't played in like a year and a half, shot like ~45-50 on 9 holes, like a boss.

Good shit man, fellow golfer here, though I don't have any plans for any tournaments and the like (2 rounds a week is frequent for me lol). I average 18 holes a week at a decent course I have a free membership at. Not a good player by any means (i shoot around 110 at said course) as I'm still pretty new at the game and still fixing some glitches in my swing.
Funny story: Last monday I snapped the head off my 3 wood on my first swing of the day - couldnt find the club head >.>

Normally I shoot in the 80's. Once or twice a year I have an amazing day and when I do I blog it. :D
Last week I shot an 84 on the same course. It's actually kinda shitty, I have like 10+/- stroke variance, I'm not consistent at all. Prolly cuz I don't play as much as I should. Technically I'm like a 15 handicap right now. So to shoot 4 over par right now is insane and definitely kinda lucky lol.
|
I once played a par 3 9 hole course so that was like 7 par 3's and 2 par 4's, I shot a 37 and felt proud til I realized what that equated to.

Good round bro! Sounds like if you put in some more work you could easily be right around scratch. I am a tournament player and my handicap right now is a 3. Yeah I feel you on how expensive it is to play, but I hope you find the time and money to continue to play because it is a fun game that can be played for a lifetime.

I took it up late last year and I've been playing 2-3 times a month all summer, yet I still haven't broken 100. Still, golf is super fun. I probably spend more time on golf than SC these days.

Lowest for me have been around mid 80's. But I never tried seriously.

Damn you're good. For me even a par is something I would blog about. And yeah, clubs are expensive, I've been playing with my father's for a while now but they really are starting to feel short and used (the handgrip is smooth as a baby skin now) and even sending them to mantain them feels harsh on my pocket. Luckily for me, there's this low budget club not too far of my place, but I'm getting really lazy these times to take profit from it.

Nice Man! Well done. Those rounds are sooo much fun, when your just in perfect control of every shot. Best feeling in the world.
I actually had one of those rounds here a couple weeks ago, just every shot was exactly the way I wanted to hit it AND I holed a wedge from about 60 yards from an eagle. Went on to tie my low round with a 65, it was a blast. Moments like those just keep you coming back again and again despite the cost and frustration from the bad days.
Yeah clubs are expensive I need new clubs. And just playing alot can get super expensive. Which is the main reason why I stopped playing as much. Just couldn't afford it.
Lol yeah, no kidding. I'm in the same boat. My main wedge literally has no grooves in the center of the club from having been practiced with so much, its just smoothed out a golf ball size portion of the clubface, its bad. Needless to say, I don't get anywhere near the spin I could get with a proper wedge (amazingly though I get some degree of spin, it doesnt spin back or anything, but it doesnt roll 15 feet like it sounds like it could). Just too damne expensive though, I don't have 1k+ to just go out and spend.

Dude, nice! I love golf, but i'm really really really bad and don't have any clubs appropriate for me and I haven't gone in ages etc etc. I'd love to get back into it but I'm in the same boat (shit's expensive) for now.

Good shit. I also love to golf, but I also can't find the time (or the money) to fit it in regularly.
Sadly, a good day on the links for me consists of 1 birdie and 17 trips. lol
Grats on a great round of golf.

Man I'm so fucking sad (excuse my French). I really really really love golf, but now I'm at college and can't afford to join a club or go golfing period. T_T

It seems like my hand is finally getting to the point where I can play more than once a week without getting all sore... just in time for me to have very little time hahaha.
My handicap after playing 1 time per week is now 23.4... basically right where it started haha. I'm soooooooooooooooooooooo frustrated with golf.
