Insane Blitz with Terran

For the past hour I was trying to get the insane blitz achievement using terran against protoss ai. I figured steps of war would be the best map due to the really short rush distance.

I did a 6 proxy fastest turbo reaper (or whatever it is called) found here: http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft2/Turbo_Reaper_(vs._Protoss)#Fastest_Turbo_Reaper

The requirement is to beat the computer in under 5 minutes. I thought this meant 5 game-minutes so I turned the speed down to slowest and played a few times to optimize my build, scv send timing for bunker/etc, and the like. At first I got 5:10 and then 5:13. Finally I got 4:47 (computer is a bitch about typing out even when it's lost lol). But even after that good run I didn't get the achievement.

I turned the speed up to fastest and did it again. I screwed up some micro and lost a reaper (it's much more difficult after all and it was my first attempt on fastest) but still won after 5:48. It gave me the achievement (and all the similar achievements for lower level AI's).

I'm guessing you need to beat it in 5 real life seconds rather than 5 game seconds, and that fastest speed counts faster than real time. If I had known that I wouldn't have screwed around on slowest. Well, at least I have a respectable record of 4:47.

I challenge anyone who wants to to play tvp vs insane ai on steps of war, and get your best time. Here's my replay:

Does it have to be Steppes? I averaged 4 minutes flat on Agria when doing my Terran AI Romp 100. Zerg/Protoss games were always under 3m5s unless the computer was being bitchy and didn't want to GG.

I'm interested to see how fast you can get it on other maps although for the purposes of comparison/competition steps is necessary since that's the one I played on :p

edit: working on the insane 8 comp ffa right now...

first game tried playing on megaton... I managed to clear my half but the terran from the other side of the map caught me out of position and took me out ._.

I think the reaper rush would be faster on Incineration Zone.

For the insane ffa achievement, if you want to get it really easily just play on Extinction as terran, make all the AI zerg, and lift to an island at the start and mass battlecruisers / ravens. Expand to the other island and high ground areas blocked off by destructible rocks.

It's actually easier to do this on Lava Flow because there are 2 expos on each island. Just count the GGs and when the second to last AI GGs, hit the last AI with all of your BCs.

Does it have to be a ladder map? I've been able to get 4:30 (I think that was it, I'll have to double check) cannon rushing on Agria Valley.

Edit: Oh, sorry. didn't see the tvp on steppes part. I'll get right on that

BBS gets a marine in a bunker next to the nexus before the first zealot. For Steppes, make 1 scv for a total of 7 on minerals, rally the next 2 scvs to the enemy, then make 1 more to mine. Make both rax ON TOP of the ramp at 10/11 then supply at home at 10/11. When the first rax is done make a marine and a bunker right next to the nexus. If you put the rax above the ramp, the probes won't panic and kill your SCV (I don't know why this is but it's true). Then just pump 2 rax rine and have the SCVs attack the nex to lure the probes to the bunker. I'm not at my computer but I think this is faster than 4 minutes... replay tomorrow night though, I promise.

EDIT: Nvm I woke my lazy ass up, I'm gonna post a rep soon before someone steals my build. :o

Thanks I just finished the ffa. I got down to the last opponent and moved out with my BCs.... I was hunting down hatcheries for another half hour I swear rofl.... it was refugee zerg!

Nice! That definitely seems faster than the reaper rush. Do you know why the scvs didn't start attacking the bunker building scv? That's what seemed to happen to me most of the time.

All I know is if you build your rax on top of the ramp they don't chase you. You can even build the rax below and float on other maps as long as the rax lands before you bunker.

Nice! That definitely seems faster than the reaper rush. Do you know why the scvs didn't start attacking the bunker building scv? That's what seemed to happen to me most of the time.

From my experience with insane ai, workers only attack your bunkers/cannons/etc if they're close enough to their buildings to pose a threat.

hmm can't seem to get this method to work. if i try the same building placements as the replay i'm getting mauled by workers. i can put down my BB below the ramp, but there's no way i can get the bunker down

Is it possible that a patch has affected the way the AI responds? Either that or maybe you aren't quite copying it right? I haven't tried recently.

i have a feeling the new patch is affecting it. it also made cannon rushing for the 1v4 achievement on megaton a lot harder. also it makes reaper a lot less viable.

anyways, i just got the achievement anyways using 6 pool + spine crawler for zvz

I haven't tried it myself but I heard that the AI HAAAAAAATES cannons/bunkers/spines now.

Yeah I think the AI maphax now, so if you didn't get the achievements you wanted before, you probably won't get em so easily now.

On a lighter note, this build can still get you to 1200+ rank diamond TvT, TvP, even with the bunker nerf. Thumb down 4p maps gogogo!~

I think with the new build requiring a depot before bunker, it makes terran very difficult.

On the latest patches 1.1.2.16755 I used the Protoss Cannon Rush against Terran and completed Insane in 4:27 on Agria Valley.
9th Probe - send him to enemy on the low ground as close to minerals line as possible - build pylon
train 10th probe
build forge in pylon well clear to give you room.
build 2 cannons on the low ground 1 either side of pylon
wait... you need to time your probe to run to the high ground behind the gas so he arrives just after your cannons complete...
his marines will attack you but just run past
lay down 2 cannons to the minerals side of the gas. dont block yourself in.. then asap - put a pylon behind his mineral line and then when thats done - put two well place cannons..
once they complete, terran should GG.
Against Protoss - they dont GG until you've pretty much killed everything..

I used heinzb's strategy to get the Insane AI romp achievement, so I had to do it 10 times in a row. This gave me the opportunity to optimise the rush a bit more. My fastest time was 3:42, but that was with very poor execution so I think some more time can be shaved off that.

First, when heinzb writes "9th probe" I assume he means 8th probe: when the 8th probe pops out, the 9th starts building and the food counter says "9", but that's the eighth probe.

However, you can go much faster if you're satisfied putting only one cannon on the low ground, which is sufficient. Set your probes to mining and build a 7th probe. Grab one of the first returning probes and immediately send it to the enemy base. Build an 8th probe. Now build a pylon in the position suggested by heinzb. Build the forge, then chrono out two more probes. Wait for the forge to finish, then put down a single cannon.

Here is a second departure from heinzb's strat: do not wait for the cannon to almost warp in, but *almost* immediately run into the base and start a second cannon there. There will be no marines because we're quite early. However, the scvs will attack the second cannon. This is desired: as they are attacking, the first cannon should warp in and start firing on them. They will then run out of the base to suicide on the first cannon, which will make the computer gg much faster. If you are too quick putting down the second cannon the scvs might kill it, so you might have to wait for one or two seconds before putting it down - but no more.

Obviously spend all remaining minerals on putting down a pylon and further cannons asap.
Good luck!

edit: if you have good micro (I don't), you can also try to put a pylon down in the computer's mineral line. All scvs will start following your probe, but if you can avoid them this will allow you to warp in two cannons who can hit the nexus even faster. My best time with this strat is about the same as if you build the second cannon first.
