[H] Guitar/Amp problems

Hi. I'm currently using a laney LX35R amp and an Epiphone Les Paul Standard. Had these for quite a while now(like 2-3 years?) and basically I lived with a minor sound defect when I play.

I get a really weird buzzing and muffling of sound whenever I bar two or more strings at 10th fret or higher on distortion. This is quite disruptive to playing especially whenever I am practicing arppegios and sweep picking. I can't hear each note distinctively whenever I do the rolling motion with my fretting hand. There isn't any sound problem like this when I play on clean.

A friend told me that the problem lies with my amp and getting a distortion pedal should fix it. Just wondering if anyone else here has had this problem or knows where the problem lies. Thanks

sounds like you have a screw loose. (haha)
this has happened to me before. check all the screws and make sure they are tightly fastened.
it will more then likely be a speaker not being held tightly in place and vibrating against the amp case. also if your amp has spring reverb it could possibly be coming from that. if that still doesnt fix the buzz then you might want to look for rips in the speaker or other damaged parts inside that might be banging around from vibration.

i dont see how a distortion pedal will fix this unless he is implying that your amp has low quality distortion or something. but i would have to listen to it myself to tell you more.

The problem is probably in the AMP and buying a processor should fix it. I don't use any kinds of processor but a friend of mine uses zoom g2 -> click if you find it second hand it will be even better

Well, he did say that the buzzing comes when he is high on distortion, so the most logical thing is that his amp's distortion is not that good

okok ill go check out if there's a screw loose right now. btw, do you recommend if i get a new amp? i heard that my current amp is pretty good actually. but i was tihnking of getting a new one.

ok its definately the processor. all screws are intact.

No need to get a new amp, if only the distortion on high volume is the problem, the processor enchances the sound and makes it better and has some effects you could use No need to buy completely new AMP.

this has happened to every guitar i have tried. even at studios which provide like the best equipment.

like i like to bar the B and E string when playing the intro to sweet child o mine, and you'll get that weird sound the OP is talking about.

i dont know what it is but i just learned to play it without bar

must be some kinda weird sound thing that happens

The problem doesn't happen on high volume. I usually play my guitar at like 1-2 volume and 2 is already quite loud. The weird buzzing and conflicting of sound happens at high frets. Meaning that if I bar a chord from the 8+th fret onward, it gives me this problem. If its more than just the processor then I may as well just get a new one. lol
