uhh did he dies? ..no but seriously he dived to lose?
|
I'm confused, I don't watch boxing so correct me if i'm wrong.
The person who drops to the ground and cannot get up loses...
So why would a boxer "dive" because they lose...
Edit* got done watching the video, so basically the boxer chickened out and didn't want to fight it seems. I don't know how one boxer faking getting hurt is a "sport destroying piece of shit"
Was this boxer your favorite, and thus disappointed?

the major australian bookmakers froze betting on the fight after they received a large number of bets for a first round KO ... so yeah, he probably took a "dive". he certainly didn't get the crap beaten out of him.
the problem is what doing this does to the sport; people who paid for this on PPV or for a ticket to go see it live will never watch boxing again. jeff fenech, former champion, has pretty much said the same thing in a few national newspapers a couple of days ago. -_-;;;
|
put another way:
if a boxer 'dives', it's because the match is rigged. rather like savior getting paid to lose, and earning money on betting on the other guy.
|
well, then he makes it pretty damn clear that he is a cheat, atleast he isn't trying to hide the fact?
tbh, its a good thing what he did (not for him, but for the fans)
Because he cannot attempt to defend himself, because he just fell on the ground, instead of just getting beat up and faking his loss "legitimately" and getting knocked out
|
i'm taking issue with someone pretty much taking money for a fall, and dragging the sport down with it. boxing relies on income from pay-per-view and people buying tickets to the event. if they think the entire sport is tarnished with cheats, or their last experience was ruined by something as disgusting as this, they won't go. boxing survives on the principle that when you get hit, it fucking hurts. there's no glorious spectacle like you get with MMA; it's the stamina of going the distance, and pounding the crap out of the other guy. but dropping in the first round? so blatantly?
it's damaging to the sport.
|
I'll play devil's advocate more.
It's not the diving that is "damaging the sport" it's the betting against yourself. I don't watch so I don't know this, so I'll ask. How often does stuff like this occur in boxing?

it happens in the untelevised, lower levels at RSL's and small clubs and gyms. i couldnt tell you how regular it happens though, but a title fight is rare.

not as rare as you would think they just sell it a hell of a lot better than this
