I love delivering pizzas! Last summer I worked in a kitchen and it was pretty much hell. Fucking up was pretty easy since people buy stupid shit like "flying buffalo chicken pizza" and at the very end of the ticket it says "no chicken." When the orders were slow I would mop floors(including the bathroom), sweep the kitchen, climb on top of a 500 degree oven and grease it, and I'd smell like shit by the end of the day. Oh and this was for 8 bucks an hour.
Noowwww I am the delivery man. God this job is so easy and the money is wayyy better. I mean all I have to do is bag some food, make sure to provide utensils, and chill in my car listening to some music with the air conditioner on. Every delivery I took today, I just gave them their food, asked how the lakers are doing(god people just tip more when you show interest in whatevers going on), and was off.
The best part is, even when there are no deliveries, the side work is way easier. Pick up a few plates, fold some boxes, or just pretend to be a host(which means standing at the counter and doing nothing), till an order comes in. Today I made like $110 in 6 hours(on a more normal day it'd be around 80), pretty fucking crazy compared to the $48 I would have made in the kitchen. Oh did I mention that 40 minutes of every hour I'm not even in the restaurant? Fuck yeah, delivery FTW!

Bostons Gourmet Pizza ^_^ Everything is restaurant priced(I think a large pizza is like 22 bucks), which means higher tips than normal Pizza Places :D

Dude props to you. In this economy, it's definitely hard to get jobs, even harder to get jobs that you would want to do.

you're in boston and you asked how the lakers are doing?
i don't understand the logic.

Uhh I'm in Southern California, Boston's is just the name of the restaurant, the founders were huge red sox fans or something.
But yeah 7 finals games gave me a lot of extra $$$ WOOT!

alright I guess I'm going to tip pizza delivery guys less then.

I agree that it is a great job.
Unfortunately, I haven't applied to do it again this summer as I've discovered that I would need to buy $5000 a year insurance.

Americans tip for pizza? I get tipping in restaurants (although I find the assumption of tips abhorrent) but tipping for pizza? What can a delivery guy really offer beyond the pizza you already ordered. It's not like he's gonna refill your drink for you. You have more interaction with the guy behind the til and McDonalds and he's in a better position to offer you customer service. Do you tip him too?
That said, congrats on finding a decent job that you enjoy.

That said, congrats on finding a decent job that you enjoy. the pizza dudes often use their own cars to deliver. The pizza places normally pay half of all gas costs, or even if they pay it all or whatever they are still devaluing their car driving around all day to service the public. If they didn't get tips, they could find another job right? Then who's gonna deliver your pizza when you're a lazy pos.
The thing that bothers me though, is when pizza places charge a delivery fee (which i assume is applied to the delivery man's salary or split) and then the guys want tips on top.

It's basically the price you pay for not wanting to go out yourself I guess. Most places just give a buck per delivery, which is actually pretty accurate in gas costs.

I don't think I've EVER heard of anyone being happy about working at a pizza place but you sir are an optimist. Props to you friend for enjoying a simple job like that ^_^ even when most people would be like, "Fuck I hate driving around giving people pizza fuck my life."

I love how you consistently show more interest and knowledge in american sports than most of the americans here.

I'm a college freshman next year and getting around at least $12-13 an hour on a bad day, and up to $20 on a good day. Compared to the $8 an hour I made with wayyyy harder work, I'm pretty happy (:

I guess you've found a great niche, because in Europe and China, most of the delivery mens are provided with a rotten moped (freezing in winter, scorching in summer, no music/ air condition), and... don't get any tips ! Grats anyway ! Are you doing this as a summer job again or as a permanent employee ?

*jealous* i wish i was doing that. dont even have a job atm, fuck

Haha thanks, just for the summer, but maybe on the weekends during the school year, it's about a 45 min drive from my college.
