The pizza places normally pay half of all gas costs, or even if they pay it all or whatever they are still devaluing their car driving around all day to service the public. If they didn't get tips, they could find another job right? Then who's gonna deliver your pizza when you're a lazy pos. The thing that bothers me though, is when pizza places charge a delivery fee (which i assume is applied to the delivery man's salary or split) and then the guys want tips on top. That's the same as the waitress argument where because the employers underpay them and treat them like shit it becomes the burden of the consumer to dole out charity. I don't buy that. The only reason a pizza place can get away with not paying the petrol expenses is because they can convince someone else to through tips. In every other job if you are required to use your vehicle on company business they refund expenses. There's not even any customer service element in pizza delivery, the tipping really is just charity. It's utterly absurd.

The drivers don't get a cent of the delivery fee. The delivery fee is a way for the consumer to pay for the company's insurance. It is very misleading.

I delivered at Dominos for 3 years and at my store we charged $1.50 for delivery and exactly $0.00 went to the driver. Just letting people know that you should still always tip the driver if you don't want your pizza to be fucked with, cuz at my store if you dont tip ppl will put it in the notes under your phone number and then your pizza is fair game lolz. Dont be a stingy dousche and tip the fucking driver!!!!!!!!!!!!

Different shops work differently in regards to delivery fee. Some shops keep the fee to offset the cost of employing someone, others give it to the driver to cover costs. You tip the delivery guy for quickly bringing you your pizza and you better believe if you frequently order the drivers know how much you usually tip. The thing I miss the most is that in my mind pizza is still free, so I have a really hard time paying for it, even though I haven't worked in a pizza place for almost 10 years. Good on you, OP, for truly enjoying your time and place.

Dont be a stingy dousche and tip the fucking driver!!!!!!!!!!!! I never fucked with anyone's pizza. nor did I care If I got tipped or not. In fact, I only got tipped about 70% of the time. 8 out of ten times it was less than 3 dollars. I still made good money so its cool to tip 2-3 bucks. best tips came from rich neighborhoods, but they are the most likely not to tip. every poor neighborhood all ways tipped, even if it was just 50c. Its true that we never saw a cent of the delivery charge. best tips I ever got(not money):beers(not opened, drank latter), hits on bongs, hot girls phone Number. highest tip(money): 63$, gave me 4x20$ for a 17 dollar Pizza.

I want replays or, at the very least, highly detailed battle reports on some of these non-$$ tips. Especially a girl's number... not seeing any reasonable ways for that to happen.

Yea, Ive gotten some pretty badass non money tips too. I watched an inning of the world series with 1 guy and he gave me 2 slices of the pizza and a beer haha. As for my highest tip, there was this rich as single dad that always let his kids friends over and had like 50 kids over one time ordered like 150 bucks of pizza and gave me 200 and told me to keep change. I shat brix!

![]() Over here i don't think tipping is customary, but i usually leave the delivery guy with some change, 50 cents, a buck, just don't feel like waiting for them to return it, I hope it adds up at the end of the day.

Well at the place I work the drivers get paid 2.50 an hour + tips (delivery fee doesn't go to them, $.65 for gas per delivery). So if you don't tip them then they don't make any money. One other driver and I worked in the store first though, so we make our $9 per hour and then tips. ![]()

I generally give $2 or 10%. whichever is greater, unless the weather is bad, in which case I tip more. In NYC the vast majority of delivery persons use bikes, not cars, which means they are more vulnerable to accidents/bad weather, but have fewer expenses. Just wondered what people thought about this.

Busy kitchens suck though. Even reasonably small kitchens get stressful and stupid ![]()
