A warm bath Gentle massage Walking them in the pram Taking them for a drive If you play soothing music after they're born and keep the volume to a comfortable level during down time then they won't grow up needing dead silence to go to sleep. A set routine (think bath, massage, bed) will help them go to sleep easier too. Don't have any babies of my own yet. Did help raise my younger brothers and some of the other 42 grandchildren on my father's side of the family though.

I don't know how much gas we burned up driving fussy babies. Then we realized it was the sound that calmed them down, not so much the movement. That's when we started using a sound machine. The problem is we are away from home so much. I was researching out baby sleep and found the greatest solution. The only conceivable way is if you water your lawn and it evaporates and falls somewhere else, but that just changes distribution. You cannot waste water by running the tap. Unless you mean it is expensive... but it is a tiny amount of cost on a utilities bill. Continue using the tap to make babies shut up. I've learned that most of the time my relative's babies cry they just want attention or to be picked up; babies are allergic to being on their backs.
