All I remember about AoE1 was that shore fishing (where your villager literally stands on the coast and throws spears at little patches of fish in his range) was one of the fastest ways to gain food. Also if you can micro and he can't, your Bowman pump should rape his Axemen.

You need to be careful going bowmen in the expansion now, because slingers are super costeffective against them and come right out of rax.

I suggest you go learn a tried and true build order immediately: due to the variety of resources, an aoe build order is not as forgiving as a starcraft one; it needs to be very precise. Past that point the most important thing is to let your bw macro skills take over and just right click those units to his vulnerable spots. In the later stages of the game build units to counter his and patrol them right through his base - patrol is attack move so your gonna depend on it.

I spent most of the day studying and learning toolrushing and strong bronze age attacks and got them down fairly well. Until he decided that we should play on an island map. In any case, I also learned the standard things you should do with your villagers and what to look for in the first place. So it wasn't really that bad.

Too bad he didn't save the replay (he was host) and if he did he wouldn't have given it to me anyways, so I just took a screen shot (after I figured out how) at the end of the game.

Just wondering - do you realize you can "herd" the wildlife closer to any collection point? Gazelles can be chased nearby, and Elephants can follow you until you get nearby.....
