Is anyone aware if Blizzard is planning on leaving the ability to see every map during multiplayer game play on the official release of SC2? I've been curious about this for quite some time. For me personally it wasn't so much my micro/macro that hurts me in game. It's my opponent picking a map I've never seen or rarely play that always ends up biting me in the ass. I'm sure others will agree that map knowledge/strategies are just as important as macro and micro collectively. I just don't want to see Blizzard cater to the casual player and turn into a huge complain fest much like MW2 is currently and has been pretty much every since it was released. This is a game that takes years to become truly successful at and personally I would like to see stay that way.

As far as I know, this feature hasn't bothered competitive players. I think it will stay in the game and it won't ever be an issue.

I can't understand what you are saying in your post. Could you explain your problem a little more clearly for people like me who are not in the beta?

I love this feature, just having a wall of black unless you can draw the map by hand is stupid in 2010

Fog of war is not completely black; you can see the entire map.

I don't think it's a huge detriment. If you're a remotely competitive player, you almost always knew the map you were playing on in bw quite well. If it's your first time with a map in sc2, I can see how the fundamentals of knowing where to scout his base is revealed to you quite overtly, but you're still at a significant disadvantage to a player who is more familiar with the map. It's pretty hard to find every expo and nuance and invent strategies on the fly (especially when things are so dark xD). I think this change is only significant for the casual community.

Basically what I'm asking is are they planning on leaving the map the way it is or blacking it out like it is in BW.

Only 2 possible reasons why Blizzard is doing this:

1) The SC2 terrain is just that pretty.
2) They want to prevent people from making phallic images in the minimap with their scouting workers (or at least make them less obvious).
May the BeSt man win.

It won't really be a problem, once you play a map 10 times you remember it pretty well anyway. It just makes it easier for casual players, no easier for competitive players.

I like it being revealed the way it is, it helps newer players dive into the maps without having to play through them a few times to get used to them. I know in SC1 before iccup and all that jazz I never really played on any other map but a couple of the ladder ones for 1v1ing just because I did not want to spend the time to go through all the maps and explore them.

I think it's fine. Best part about it is that it will make people less afraid to try new maps and HOPEFULLY the community wont want to just play python (or well SC2's equivalent) forever.

I like it better this way so I don't have to guess about scouting.

Or maybe they can set it as an option pregame. I would appreciate something like that.

This makes it easier for beginners to jump into the ladder, without having to worry about learning the layouts of new maps and such. I like it.

I don't think this is going to be a problem but yeah good idea to make it an option before the game starts, that may be useful to stop any complaints if there are going to be any what so ever.

I don't see any problems with it, and it definitely will help weaker players getting into the game.
If you have a good reason to disagree with the above, please tell me. Thank you.

It makes sense to have it visible. Starcraft is not about remembering the map by head and being able to click in the dark and be at most 5 tiles off from what you wanted to click. Being disadvantaged because you blindly clicked just at the wrong side of a cliff should not be part of the game.

I have yet to play sadly, so my opinion might be invalid, but I would love to see them return to the old fog of war, just because I like that system. Adds a degree of I dunno;...something to the game, seeing you slowly uncover more and more of the map. It also helps show very clearly where you have yet to check for something or things of that nature.

But ya, not game destroying or anything.

The current implementation is great. They will definitely not change it.
