I'll probably post something more detailed when I get farther along, so far, I like this less than I did 12 (for the modern FFs, I hold 7, 10 and 12 to be high up on the list and 8 & 9 low, 4 and 6 are both excellent too) but more than I did 9. The story itself probably won't be anything to write home about, and it features some of the most annoying characters I've seen in FFs with what seems thus far completely vanilla development. However, the storytelling is quite novel for a FF. That doesn't completely make up these two aspects, but certainly makes it something that you can tolerate and maybe even enjoy.
Thanks for the info.
Considering we have similar taste in FF games(although I liked FF8 story in a way), this doesn't look too promising. Especially since I hate annoying characters more than annoying plot lines.
I hope they releases FFXIII Versus sometime on the 360. That game look more enticing to me than FFXIII.

Because you have to like all the characters in a narrative to enjoy it?
Sounds awfully uninteresting.

Cut it out already, if it has to do with what someone else likes/doesn't you're in no position to critisize it. On another note: Its honestly impossible to give a good evaluation of all the characters without spoiling but at best I can say that they are all well made characters from the start. Lightning, main female protagonist doesn't put up with Hope's shit and that gets fixed pretty fast. Everyone starts off as annoying and as you work through the story all of their 'bad behavior' gets 'fixed' though it all depends on your opinion in those cases. Vanilla is still annoying as fuck to me the whole game, dumb whiny bitch.

Thanks. Not really a big fan of the "start off crappy and improve along the way" thing. But still crossing my fingers. I'll still buy it regardless though because of the name, although I'm really not feeling the big excitement I used to feel about FF titles. Then again, maybe it's just part of growing up.
And to keepITup, you might want to check the difference between words that show comparison vs words that show absolute. I hope it's just a matter of misreading my post. Because I have no idea how you got that impression from my post.

Dull love stories are cool. In FF, not much else

I have to say, the character development is one of the most annoying one that I've seen in a while. I hated 8's character development because it was just so...urg, something coming straight out of shounen jump with a dash of shoujo manga flavor, like. 13 is coming close to that level in terms of me being annoyed, though at least it doesn't look like it is going to take them an entire game to get the one character to straighten up, so at least pacing is done right.
Hope and Snow are both extremely annoying for the most part, details would be spoilers so I'll avoid that, the former obsessed with a single goal and latter embodies stupidity. You'd think all these times you see Lightning calling Snow an idiot, it is just her annoyance with him, it isn't, he really is just an idiot. The others are better, especially our Afro guy and the little chocobo. I'd heap praises on Lightning, but I can't honestly say I like her because of her character or because Maaya is voicing her using the same voice she used for Ryougi Shiki in Kara no Kyoukai.
The story isn't as political as FF12's was so far, but they have managed to avoid giving us the same absolute evil without reason like they've done for much of PS1. I really like the storytelling methods, but that has in part to do with how every FF so far are pretty rigidly structured timeline wise, barring a few random flashbacks. The methods used here themselves are nothing to write home about (breaking up the settings into flashbacks without chronological order and such), but it is refreshing to see in FFs.
The music...well, they are truly BGM, my attention is focused on it only very rarely, though for ambient music it is fairly good, I guess the usual for Final Fantasy in that area.
