I'm wondering what's the point to play iCCup anymore. I either get bashed by B +++ smurfs or worse, people cheese me most of the time. I really can't enjoy my time on iCCup.
How is it the best place for practice then?

If you are Z go 9 pool. If you are T just quit. My 2 cents.

Then cheese, yea it happens, it teaches you basic unit control and scouting and when u have learned that u move up to a rank where it is less common.

First of all there aren't that many people that ARE B+ and the notion that those few would constantly reset in order to play at d levels is fairly ... strange imo. Most likely are the people bashing u c-/c players in need of a confidence boost which I agree is a bit lame. Then cheese, yea it happens, it teaches you basic unit control and scouting and when u have learned that u move up to a rank where it is less common. I found some funny guys in my match list. Yea they aren't B+ but they look like C level who like to D bash. http://www.iccup.com/matchlist/858381/1x1.html http://www.iccup.com/matchlist/775166/1x1.html I kinda loled when i looked at their matchlists. Overall it isn't that bad if it doesn't happen every game because playing vs slightly better people is always good even if you know that you will lose.

When you find someone of similar skill. ask for another game and eventually add him to friends if he wants to. having a few practice partners can make it a lot more enjoyable then to playing random people. It will also help you become better. The easiest way to get practice partners however is to join an active clan.

vs Z i do 7 pylon and scout very early for 5 pool builds and overpools. the rest is standard, their macro sucks as much as mine, and it's fun.

If you lose your scout probe and die to mass lings a short while later, you shouldn't see it as getting cheesed. Your opponent is simply taking an opportunity and you get punished for being dumb.

Maybe its cos i play during Korean times, but just about every zerg/terran opponent I face have APM north of 200. Zerg's neosauron builds are executed extremely crisply even at the D+ level. Obviously about half of those zergs are former C~B+ players. Educational, but frustrating as hell.(Funny how I've never reached C- playing during Korean times. Whenever I wake up really early and play, or stay late at night, I can get C- ez playing against foreigners... XD)

Maybe that's because you are bad at PvZ compared to others? I preferred PvZ over the other matchups when i was protoss. It's a preference. None of this SC T>Z>P>T Imba comes into low level play.

Nah it is because build order deviations are really risky in mirror match ups. I think it is a bad idea to cheese when you have an edge in mirrors. Also cheesing ZvP is less allin ( except for 5 pool ) than 3/4 gates goon or fast Dts in PvP. Like you can still play if you fail your lings run by or your funky 2 hatch muts. Especially if you have an edge.

So basicly when you fail your cheese PvP it allows your opponent to take his expo earlier and you are basicly fucked and contained in your main whereas the z will be able to use his superior macro ( with two bases ) and mobility advantage to get back in the game.

Well, ling abuse or 3 hatch hydras are kinda annoying too especially when you play vs a superior opponent and you know that you shouldn't build too much cannons to not get even more behind in eco. Yea of course you have to scout but a decent opponent can hide it :/

For me, reading the book that came with the BW battlechest actually helped me alot, because there was an appendix with unit counters. Then I learned online that In order to be efficient, I needed to keep my money down and my buildings working. With only these two facts, I could devise plans (build orders etc) to defeat my opponents. Later on i was introduced to pgtour, which fueled my competitive spirit with the desire to improve. I had no idea that I, a newb, could actually play against great players on a private server. The thought of getting bashed on by excellent opponents was thrilling, not defeating and humiliating. I did'nt know what cheese was back then and I didnt care. In fact, I still do not care. Cheese is part of the game, an awesome part of it. I was not a cheesy player myself, finding that beating down my opponent with giant armies was pretty awesome, so I tried to design my play to prevent quick loses through the use of good scouting. If you do not share this desire to improve then perhaps you shouldnt be playing on the most competitive foreigner ladder, and should stick to friendly games only. Its just a matter of what is most enjoyable to you, the thrill of competitive play and self improvement or the relaxation involved in friendly 1v1/2v2/ums games. ofc u can do both at different times too lol ![]()
