I always tip the hairstylists It's probably a culture thing but I feel that anyone doing a service for me that directly effects the way I'm perceived should be taken care of.

Yes, as long as she were to do a somewhat good job, and have a pleasant attitude.

You should ALWAYS tip someone providing you a service.

I cut my own hair, and tip my self by tugging my self afterwards.

What if the service was unsatisfactory due to a reason that the person providing the service could have prevented?

Ya same, I always tip them. Regardless if they gave me a bad haircut or whatnot. It's just a cultural courtesy i guess. I know in other countries, if you leave a tip, it's considered insulting. why? Because it's like they're poor and you're pitying them or something.

my brother always tips his hair stylist $20 after she gives him a cut and color. I dunno if it's because she does a really nice job, or just because she is soo damn hot! either way I think tipping is perfectly natural, and hair stylists typically rent out a chair at a salon, so tipping them is nice because they work on commission, not by the hour.

Yeah. Usually about $5 or so considering I just go to the Barber Shop and get a buzz cut....
|
Do people still go to barber shops? I always get the basic cut, hair salon are a bit over the top for that.

Maybe not always, might cause some awkward situations in a relationship...

Since hairstylists make a large part of their income from tipping... yeah!

this attitude boggles me. The whole point of tipping someone is to say "thanks, you really went above and beyond. Here. Monetary representation of my thanks".
If a hairstylist gives me a bad haircut, they've not earned their tip, and so should not get one. (it encourages them to be shitty). If a waitress does not wait on my table up to satisfaction, she does not get a tip - she's paid hourly to serve me, she does not deserve the monetary thanks unless she's done something to be thankful for.
I cannot stand my friends who do not tip. I also get peeved about people who tip regardless.
The service industry has such a huge range in quality, it's up to the consumer to encourage good service and discourage bad service. You do this by tipping correctly.

In countires where tipping is common, you should tip well for good service and small for bad service. 0 tip is as bad idea.

i tip 10-20% closer to 10 if it sucks.

hahahahaha
but seriously, tip if they do it well. tips are a way of gauging customer satisfaction in regards to how well you performed your job. if everyone left tips regardless of quality of service, you might get complacent and build a false sense of security when the truth is that you are only mediocre.

only for my wedding day it's not a usual thing here in Armenia to tip the barbers, though tipping in other service spheres (mostly restaurants) is widespread here

I tip my barber, but he's awesome and does it solo and has been forever. Hair stylists are for women.
