I always tip the hairstylists It's probably a culture thing but I feel that anyone doing a service for me that directly effects the way I'm perceived should be taken care of.
|
Yes, as long as she were to do a somewhat good job, and have a pleasant attitude.

You should ALWAYS tip someone providing you a service.

I cut my own hair, and tip my self by tugging my self afterwards.

What if the service was unsatisfactory due to a reason that the person providing the service could have prevented?
|
Ya same, I always tip them. Regardless if they gave me a bad haircut or whatnot. It's just a cultural courtesy i guess. I know in other countries, if you leave a tip, it's considered insulting. why? Because it's like they're poor and you're pitying them or something.

my brother always tips his hair stylist $20 after she gives him a cut and color. I dunno if it's because she does a really nice job, or just because she is soo damn hot! either way I think tipping is perfectly natural, and hair stylists typically rent out a chair at a salon, so tipping them is nice because they work on commission, not by the hour.
|
Yeah. Usually about $5 or so considering I just go to the Barber Shop and get a buzz cut....
|
Do people still go to barber shops? I always get the basic cut, hair salon are a bit over the top for that.

Maybe not always, might cause some awkward situations in a relationship...

Since hairstylists make a large part of their income from tipping... yeah!

this attitude boggles me. The whole point of tipping someone is to say "thanks, you really went above and beyond. Here. Monetary representation of my thanks".
If a hairstylist gives me a bad haircut, they've not earned their tip, and so should not get one. (it encourages them to be shitty). If a waitress does not wait on my table up to satisfaction, she does not get a tip - she's paid hourly to serve me, she does not deserve the monetary thanks unless she's done something to be thankful for.
I cannot stand my friends who do not tip. I also get peeved about people who tip regardless.
The service industry has such a huge range in quality, it's up to the consumer to encourage good service and discourage bad service. You do this by tipping correctly.

In countires where tipping is common, you should tip well for good service and small for bad service. 0 tip is as bad idea.

i tip 10-20% closer to 10 if it sucks.

hahahahaha
but seriously, tip if they do it well. tips are a way of gauging customer satisfaction in regards to how well you performed your job. if everyone left tips regardless of quality of service, you might get complacent and build a false sense of security when the truth is that you are only mediocre.

only for my wedding day it's not a usual thing here in Armenia to tip the barbers, though tipping in other service spheres (mostly restaurants) is widespread here

I tip my barber, but he's awesome and does it solo and has been forever. Hair stylists are for women.

If my service is actually bad I don't tip. If it is average I will probably tip a normal amount. I don't really expect anything special from a waiter for example. However, if I feel a waiter/waitress goes over and beyond expected and not being annoying I usually tip well.
I have been going to the same hair stylist since I was like 5, my parents tipped about 5$ and so do I.

Well I usually go to the same saloon to cut my hair, have been for about 3ish years so I like it. But if I really didn't like their service I probably wouldn't tip either but i'd have to really not like it and i'd feel a bit bad -_-'
lol @ the tipping vending machine/banks comments haha

I've never heard of tipping hair stylists... must be a North American phenomena.

Well im not sure about Sweden, but in North America most hair stylists work on commission only. They are rented a chair in the hair salon, and have to pay rental fees. Typically they can keep between 40-70% of the money from each persons haircut. So tipping is very common, knowing that they are working for themselves, and are actually trying to please the customer in fear of losing their clientel.

I don't have problems with tipping, after i finish college and earn the money to tip with. To tip with my parents money, it is somewhat bizzare. And yeah, as any student its not like i have money to really tip haha

tip good service, don't tip bad service, quite simple imo.
in portugal NO ONE tips, it's ridiculous. Since i was brought up in the states, when i went to portugal i would always tip services. there are problems however, not only do people look at you sideways, they don't have a tip jar so a lot of the times they stuff it in the register which tilts me, most of the time you have to go out of your way to say it's for them, and i just "excuse" my behavior by stating im a foreigner.
it was kind of hilarious how many people thought i was hitting on them, and their colleagues due to the tips.
|
|
i cut my own hair and i don't do enough things that would require me to tip, but whenever i go out to eat, i always tip at least 10% even if the service wasn't that good (unless s/he was a bitch, then they don't get anything.) 15% if it was decent and 20% if it was great.

now that i left i really am wondering if that korean girl put the money back in the register or she knew it was for her? i really wonder....i should of just took her hand put the money in and close her hand and says "its your tip"

i tip him all the time; i tip him on how to cut hair better.
isn't that what tips are all about?

I tip my barber $5.00. It's worth every penny, they know me by name and take so much extra time and care when they cut my hair over the cheap assholes tipping $1.00 or rounding up to the next dollar giving them like $0.60.
By the way, my haircuts cost $7.00 at a military barber. They actually have suprisingly good barbers considering its a military salon.
lol

I have learnt that in the tipping world there is a minority of people who doesnt tips they barber, stylist, etc. but if majority pays i guess i wont question it and just auto-bot tips.
