Well I usually go to the same saloon to cut my hair, have been for about 3ish years so I like it. But if I really didn't like their service I probably wouldn't tip either but i'd have to really not like it and i'd feel a bit bad -_-' lol @ the tipping vending machine/banks comments haha

Well im not sure about Sweden, but in North America most hair stylists work on commission only. They are rented a chair in the hair salon, and have to pay rental fees. Typically they can keep between 40-70% of the money from each persons haircut. So tipping is very common, knowing that they are working for themselves, and are actually trying to please the customer in fear of losing their clientel.

in portugal NO ONE tips, it's ridiculous. Since i was brought up in the states, when i went to portugal i would always tip services. there are problems however, not only do people look at you sideways, they don't have a tip jar so a lot of the times they stuff it in the register which tilts me, most of the time you have to go out of your way to say it's for them, and i just "excuse" my behavior by stating im a foreigner. it was kind of hilarious how many people thought i was hitting on them, and their colleagues due to the tips.

By the way, my haircuts cost $7.00 at a military barber. They actually have suprisingly good barbers considering its a military salon. lol
