Just remember to persevere with whatever plan (I'm sure you'll end up with a good plan no matter what) you come up with and if you're ever feeling down, just sign on to TL or the irc or w/e and you'll recieve all the support and motivation you can get.

Just a little bump to say I've so far lost 6kg on changing my diet alone. Plus a bit of added walking (speed walking, because I normally walk at a crazy pace due to long legs.) I also started working out lightly using my weights, but I need to force myself into doing it more often.

I have really sore throat today and I want to try and avoid using sugary cough sweets -_- *looks round for alternative cough cures.*

Thank you for the links I'm trying to read up as much as possible on portion sizes and foods recently.

oh man...184 lb? Korean food is generally less fattening than Western food but there are a lot of Korean dishes with meat(beef/pork) too...

Not to mention those irresistable bakeries and sweets =/

But good job so far, I'm trying to shed a few pounds here too

But I don't think understand why you put white rice in the no list...I didn't think it was really fattening?

No meat?

You need meat to help out with the testosterone levels.

No nuts?

And I'd say you're doing the right thing with the rest. Don't have more than 50g of carbs a day if you're cutting. And get 1g of protein/lb of lean body mass. That way you won't lose any muscle.

Avoid dairy, salty foods, sweets, etc.

The problem was I wasn't eating Korean food, but in my first year when I lived in a tiny town and food options were limited/it was a pretty depressing time I binged on take away burgers and other stuff. I put white rice on the list because it makes me feel really bloated, it's boring without flavoring and it has become to much of a 'regular' food for me. I want to try more interesting alternatives.

Weights are awesome and really make a difference if done regularly. Try intergrating your weights session with a specific routine you do in a day, I always do mine 1hr after eating my dinner (also means I stop playing poker after that hour!) and ive not missed a session for a while

White rice has a lot of carbs, no? That's what I heard.
If you are going to eat rice though, make rice with HYUN-MI or 콩 (beans)

Good job on the progress though!

Grats on the weight loss. That plus walking more is enough by itself to get you down to the weight you'd like to be. Exercise the upper body and you'll be able to beat nerdy korean starcraft kids at arm-wrestling. :p

Are we going to get to see pics of you and your improvements? :D

We eat white rice because of the carbs. Depending on your goals/approach, brown rice or even something else entirely (quinoa? haven't gotten a chance to try this stuff yet) might be better. If you want to add muscle mass/gain some lean weight, eating A LOOTTT frequently (white rice with meat and veggies six times a day) might be a good approach. Keep in mind that lean muscle mass will burn fat at rest. Beneficial in the long term, but I'm not sure how effective the total caloric burn from weightlifting+increased muscle mass is compared to cardio only, or any other program.
