Mayonnaise is equally as bad, if you had to dumb it down you could say that ketchup is sugar while mayo is fat. And just purely because it's made of fat means it has about 6 times more calories in the exact same serving size. While the fat from the mayo means extra calories, high fructose corn syrup really spikes your insulin causing your body to store a lot more fat. It's a toss up with no benefits from either product, I personally avoid both.

Probably goign to increase breakfast size and cut carbs through the daytime as my most recent adjustment. My snacking consists 100% of vegetables (cucumber/carrots/tomatoes) and nuts. I have switched canola oil to olive oil when preparing cooked meals, etc. I never ever ever buy something without checking the nutrition facts, etc. Although I think I'm defecient in some ions b/c for the first time in a whhhhhhhhhhhhhhiiiiiiiiiiiile I cramped while sleeping lol

Some Ketchup you can find does not contain HFCS, however, as BlackJack correctly stated, there's such a little amount in Ketchup that it's almost negligible. It's not like soda or candy, where soda's ingredient list is carbonated water, HFCS, [rest of ingredients], and candy is HFCS, [rest of ingredients]. It's more like 4th on the list for Ketchup. What you want to avoid is purchasing too many products like that. You could buy, say, honey mustard at the store, which often times is the fake kind and has HFCS in it, along with some of the cheaper BBQ sauces, teriyaki sauce, jelly, kids cold cereal -- all contain the stuff. With ketchup, that's 6 items in your house that will have HFCS in it. It adds up.

I'm looking into finding healthier alternatives to those condiments using my konglish skills. I also need to find a source of celery for snacking on. Any ideas of condiments or DIY sauces I can use on salad or tofu etc? [EDIT] I'm on day one today - so far consumed a banana and green tea plus a small carton of drinking milk. I feel like poop, but lunch is soon which means chicken salad ^_____^ I am going to buy some little plastic boxes after work to take veggie and fruit snacks to work in. I'm also going to try and stick to a midnight curfew (meaning 7 hours sleep instead of 5-6.) and get up at 7am so I have time to have a decent breakfast of eggs and fruit and possibly cereals etc.

One of the hardest things for me is getting rid of the cravings. Your body needs fat. You just have to make it healthy fat. Nuts like pistachios or cashews can really help get rid of cravings i've noticed. Even if you only eat a few and let some time pass. Also chewing sugar free gum helps me some times. Drink lots of water. Avoid Pop/soda at all costs. Consuming protein and getting your daily amounts of fiber are also really important because it keeps you fuller, longer. Also pasta/rice can be pretty bad from a few places i've read. (For losing weight, that is) I don't know how legit that info is. Either way I try to stay away from them. Also portioning is a big thing. After a while of dieting my body has gotten used to less amounts of food. I've currently been working out/dieting for about 5 days now. I've lost about 6 pounds which some may say isn't healthy, but i've been running and working out a lot. So I think it's fine. One last thing is inspiration. For me. I plan on going on a month long trip and I really want to get in good shape. I have about two years to do so. Will take about that long to save up enough money. ): But good luck to you. I hope you can reach and maintain your goals.

Mayo is just egg, oil, vinegar mixed together basically with minor things added for flavour. Also NeverGG, Feel free to pm me for ideas on what to make if you can make a generalized inventory of what you have in your kitchen. Also, chicken and fish should be the primary meats you eat on your diet, pork and beef although tasty and delcious (you did mention you are wary of pork however) are much worse for you, and will make the process longer. I will sit down and do a longer post, but I need abit to gather my thoughts, and figure out some decent recipes to give you

I don't do the salad thing anymore, I just buy a stalk of celery and a bag of carrots and be eating those whenever I am not consuming a real meal.

Any ideas of condiments or DIY sauces I can use on salad or tofu etc? My current favorites for salad dressing are Honey Mustard and Apple Cider vinaigrette. Honey mustard is stupidly easy. It's just 1 part mustard per 1 part honey. Little known fact: you can't be expected to know this, but honey (at least in America) has to be 100% from the bee, with nothing -- not even water -- added. That said, manufacturers still try to circumvent it. They get away with it by feeding the bees with a HFCS diet. It's cheaper than having them get nectar from plants. This diet changes the consistency of honey from a paste (nectar-fed bees) to a syrup (HFCS fed bees). The result is a less healthy honey, as you may have guessed. Original honey that has bees that aren't fed anything weird like that will have the same consistency as butter. Just the consistency, though. It should have a more dull-greyish color, but it should not be translucent like the syrup-like honey of HFCS-fed bees. Now, I like sweet things. Fruit, candy, juice, whatever. I prefer sweet over salty stuff. That's why I specifically said apple cider vinaigrette. If you're more in to salty, go for a regular vinaigrette. It's going to still be homemade, and therefor better than anything you could have bought. There's thousands of simple vinaigrette recipes online. Just google it.

edit: And no ketchup? Its not like a person consumes liters of that stuff everyday anyway, but I guess its more of an extreme. ![]()

I am okay with cutting it out though because I've resisted the urge to buy a new bottle by running away from the condiments aisle at the market.
