post-apocalyptic fantasy steampunk imo

post apocalyptic = low population = boring.
It's nice fighting off 10,000 orcs with a group of friends.

A world where aliens have taken over. Periodically your starcraft skills are tested and if you fail you are killed.

how about;
the modern day world continues to live as it is now, and global warming becomes a big problem. the polar caps melt, and nearly all land is under water. billions of humans die, and the rest remain alive on huge sea platforms. over time, we have evolved and certain humans have the ability to wield magic, but only a small % of the population can do so.
or;
the modern day world continues to live as it is now, and there is a breakthrough in technology. we are able to achieve inter-stellar travel, and we colonise mars and a moon of saturn, titan. that's a more sci-fi idea.
or we can just make a world of our own, which i'm more inclined to.

I played in no order
D n D AD n D Vampire Palladium Gurps TMNT Shadowrun Some weird super hero rpg with a comedic twist forgot the name. I think thats it for straight Rpg not taking into account Magic the Gathering (got into it while waiting for players to show up for our weekly vampire games long ago) Or table top games liike Warhammer ( no i never had my own army I used friends army's or the gaming centers at the time) It has been years since I actually sat down with some serious rpgers and tried to get a game going.Though I have thought about it allot.

I used to play a space game called Freelancer on a Roleplay server. So i played a british fighter plane who joined a spanish group of partisans (i think thats the most accurate word). Its quite fun IMO when you have 12 v 12 space fights against your archenemies with battleships, gunboats, bombers and fighters. goes boom everywhere and people are generally pretty okay at roleplaying.

I play quite alot of D&D 3.5 and 4.0 and some D20 Call of Cthulhu both online at www.enworld.org and tabletop with friends for about 9 years now.

I've played alot of roleplaying games in my younger days:
AD&D Runequest
and some less known ones. RPG's can really be awesome with the right crows and atmosphere
Funnily enough RPG's weren't considered that nerdy when I was younger where I lived, so the cool kids would play AD&D lol

not necessarily
Dark Sun is a post-apocalyptic fantasy setting, and it doesn't have a low population compared to other fantasy settings.

I do what I can.
Anyway, I updated the OP with a couple of polls. It seems we have a decent group of roleplayers. If anyone is really really serious and would like to help design a good game, send me a PM with your MSN or IRC name.

LordWeird is an appropriate name for you.
Go to www.gaiaonline.com and go roleplay your life away.

Few questions about this:
- Communication: How did you plan on running this? Through a chat program (IRC etc.) with dice macros, or over voice chat? Browser / forum-based? Or even over email (lolol net1.0)?
- Game mechanics: Do you have a planned game system? Home-cooked? Dice-based, or is this simply story-driven with GM intervention?
- Setting: Planning on using a pre-set game world, fictional or world/history-based?
- Organisation: Have you set your GM crew yet? Are you running the GM side yourself? Did you plan on a timeframe/set game times for game sessions? At which time zone are you planning on doing this?
Edit; Oh, and also
- Characters: You mentioned something like 'page-long biographies' in your OP. What did you have in mind for the characters of the campaign for this? Epic scale past/events, or joe-schmoe, or anything in between? Somewhat more accurate than 'tons of pages' please.

I enjoy role-playing, I run a play-by-chat Mage: The Ascension game and am a keen 7th Sea and Paranoia player, but I'm not particularly interested in play-by-post, the interface limitations are a real buzzkill for me.
I'll probably keep an eye on the goings-on though.

1. I'm not sure there was ever going to be anything to run. I just wanted to see who would be interested.
2. No. I didn't have much of an idea going into this because I figured there wouldn't be many people. I am leaning towards the latter as for right now.
3. I was hoping we could use the SC universe >_<
4. No. Maybe. No. EST.
This is all in it's infancy... I just wanted to know if there were enough nerds like me to make it worth the effort.

I play on a regular "at least once a week" paper and dice RPG
In the last 15 years i have played many systems and even made a couple. You name it, i probably played it at least once.
With some friends when we were into Ogame (like 5 years ago) we had a forum with our roleplaying of the game. We made stories, read them, add stupid things, and solve any diference with Ogame fleets. Was one of the nicer things that i have been part of in the net, in 4 months we had thousand of posts. But Ogame was an idiotic game that demanded tons of time, and we had to work, study, have a life. So our aliance died and the forum did aswell.

oh, yes, we didnt play as character, we played it as home worlds, so we had any amount of character that we wanted, being the regent of your home world your main character.. like the Character Tree described on darksun
