Also nowadays there is just too much slow sideway passing and not enough trying to go fo the deadly pass in the box the current spain squad just dont have players that are good enough to take responsibility. they all play like they cant wait to get rid of the ball and dont want to be the guy that makes the failed pass. in the old barca you had a combination of players that made runs in behind (villa, pedro, alves, alba, messi), players that can find the runners (xavi, iniesta, messi) and players that could carry the ball and create space (iniesta, messi). now theres no one making runs, players that are afraid to make the final pass and no one who attempts to dribble. all i can see is a bunch of players afraid to take responsibility

Possible names for headcoach of Spain are Luis de la Fuente (U21), Marcelino (was in Bilbao until this summer) or Roberto Martinez Source German: sportbild.bild.de

This will not happen anytime soon, but will be interesting to have Pep coaching Spain one day. Yes, as others have said as well, Spain don't have enough quality forwards at the moment. Both Barca and Madrid bear part of the blame for failing to groom and churn out home-grown talents like before. Well, at least Barca has produced Pedri and Gavi. Who's the last great local lad from Madrid - Isco? Problem is, even mid-tier clubs like Atletico and Valencia are producing less and less talents. The fact that Olmo is presently Spain's best finisher and only playing for Leipzig really says it all. Spain tiki-taka was more on the conservative side and never as fast, fluid and flashy like Barca. People tend to forget Spain won the WC in 2010 scoring one of the lowest goals for a champion in recent WC history and played boring football even then (in fact, Germany was playing more attacking and sexy football, scoring more goals for fun, and being the neutral fan favourite). Yes, getting knocked out by Morocco is an upset. But Spain have actually been knocked out in the last 3 major tourneys by penalties. It's not like they got hammered 7-1 by Germany or 6-1 by Iberian rivals Portugal. So while Spain has been static and maybe slowly declining, they still aren't really in crisis mode and fell off the cliff like the Netherlands and Italy in recent years. Not much can be done now until a new generation of talents rise from the ashes.

Spain won the 2010 world cup and, since then, won only 3 matches, which were against Australia, Iran and Costa Rica. 3 wins in 3 world cups with a great squad is definitely an underperformance in my opinion.

Anyway, Spain did great in the Euros as well. Just losing to Italy on penalties in a game they dominated and nearly won during regular time. And then they beat Italy only to lose to France in the Nations League final. And they have just qualified for next year's Nations League final four as well. So yeah, even top teams have big ups and downs nowadays. Spain's performance and results under Enrique aren't that bad actually. But that's all done and dusted. Let's see how the new era works out.

This was the most obvious choice IMO. He won the U21 Euro cup 2019 and was second in the Olympic games in Tokyo. He knows the young talents and my guess is he is supposed to field a new, young and hungry generation of Spain to a title in the next 4 years

Sure, he started playing for Real Madrid, but he pretty much switched allegiance ever since the transfer to Barca. Maybe that even makes him more of a controversial choice for Spain?

I have a feeling that Croatia might deliver an upset today.

Boring is subjective. A team parking the bus and hitting on the counter is boring. The other team playing tiki taka to break down the bus is boring. Trying to run down the wings and pump in 20x crosses into box is boring. Blasting 10x shots into the stands from outside the box is boring. It takes two to make a match truly boring.
