When it is much easier, and more equal to not allow it all with a blanket rule.
Quick question, will the US pol thread have a bit a live report feel tonight with some relaxed rules because of the debates?

How long will the politics thread be locked?

2. What will happen to the USPMT?
The USPMT lock isn't permanent. The thread will be reopened at a later date this week.

Stopping stealthblue's spamming of links as if he gets paid to do it was one of the best decisions. They added nothing and were annoying. He never even bothered to respond if anybody replied to his posts. If anybody else did it they would be warned and eventually banned, so I don't see why some people seemed to think it was ok for a stealthblue to do so, just because most other people had the self restraint not to do as he does or were warned for doing as he did.

I think what was annoying was not how he would post links to news stories frequently, but that he couldn't make himself participate in discussions about what he was posting. I enjoyed seeing the range of articles, but he would drop them and peace out, without trying to connect it to past or future discussion. It really isn't hard.

He also frequently posted articles on subjects after they had already been discussed. That was the most annoying part of it.

Do you guys think having a politics thread is worth it?

Just there to open the question, really. Getting myself banned from this was one of the best decisions I've made in a while, but I still catch myself reading it from time to time and I never feel better going out than coming in. I can't imagine enjoying this.

Maybe you have the wrong perspective then. I generally find it both enjoyable and interesting. Nobody forces you to keep visiting it though.

Sure, I just have an addictive personality and I've wasted a lot of time into it. Definitely not trying to say you should do anything based on how I feel.

I do personally prefer watching to participating most of the time. The wide variety of hot takes people may have are much better taken when you don't bother engaging with the posters of said hot takes. I guess requesting a ban forces you to take that stance by default.

reading things that get me riled up, and being forced to write even handed things in response, is basically my job as an attorney, so visiting and participating in the thread is a nice recreational complement. Nevertheless, I fail at that task routinely, but tomorrow is a new day
