For that reason it’s a very strange gotcha for Xxio to attempt. It’s like if a Roman author mistakenly believed that Caligula made a dog a senator. You can ridicule the author’s misunderstanding if you like but the elephant in the room is that there’s a horse in the senate house. Edit for historical accuracy, it is debatable whether Caligula actually made a horse consul.

This particular crazy tweet isn’t real. People are taken in by it. The implication is that they would be foolish to believe such a silly tweet is real.

But like this that tweet is indistinguishable from any number of actual things Trump has tweeted. Sure, he could use another couple sentences to introduce the point, in accordance to thread rules. My point is the recent string of oneliner points just dunking on how stupid Trump supporters are show that the real principle at stake is showing a high contrast opinion. I say a similar post would've slipped under the radar if it was another example of Trump tweeting something stupid about the coronavirus outbreak. This is why your name consistently shows up on this thread, both to stir the pot on any drama you can, even though you don't post in the USPOL thread, and people not understanding why you are still here when others are not. Likewise, I think you really are well aware of my point and the difference about how you view him vs how you view people more ideologically similar to your own views.

Xxio should not be moderating a thread that he contributes to in this fashion. This is so basic and yet it has been going on for months. Lead from the damn front.

At this point I'm honestly feeling that the responsibility for not accepting his apologies is more with the people not accepting his apologies than how he issues his apologies, and from my perspective it seems like a worthless endeavor on his behalf to spend any more effort doing so. I also don't really see an issue with an explanation-apology in general though - you can both be sorry for your behavior and explain why you behaved in that way at the same time. (This is distinctly different from the 'I am sorry you're so thin-skinned that you were offended by my perfectly fine comment' - type of apology - which is indeed a non-apology.') Sorry for how long it has taken me to reply. By the time I came back the thread had moved on and I did not want to interrupt that conversation but it appears to have stalled. GH's posting has definitely improved in some ways (although ironically the example I was about to give was how he no longer starts posts with a condescending "lol" but then he did this) but in other ways I have seen little change. My complaints are not new. GH says something provocative (and potentially misleading) that is severely lacking details and is not forthcoming when asked for details. GH avoids explicitly making his point or saying what he thinks, instead relying on conversational implicature and if later challenged on the implied statement he pretends conversational implicature is not a thing leading to an argument about who said what. GH is accused of something but twists the accusation into something else. This behaviour is essentially what led to the "Abolish the police" shitshow first time around. This is not the behaviour of someone interested in an open discussion. This is spin. This is the behaviour of dishonest politicians and corporate spokespeople. And his apologies come off the same way to me (I should have made my point better, it was lazy of me to link wikipedia.) I think his apologies are insincere gestures designed for an effect. That apology you quoted is an attempt to stop criticism and a shield to use against future criticism - as you did in your first post to me, although I don't believe you did that intentionally. In the apology in this thread a few days ago he says sorry then here are the next three paragraphs: We have a difference of opinion on what/who violates a decorum we disagree on. It's not just us and politics, it is everyone everywhere about everything, from microwaving fish in the office to expecting someone to bring reusable bags shopping, to checkpoints in Gaza, Gitmo to Gulags, Nazi's to neighborhood covenants, Bombs to books, and the list is endless. So he starts by equating criticism of his style to criticism of his politics and implying people who disagree with him on decorum also disagree with him on "Gitmo to Gulags", follows that with stating he will only change under threat of mod action, and ends by making it clear he is on a mission to change minds. That said I recognize I'm a guest, and while I obviously believe in a more collective style of 'ownership', I also recognize the material conditions under which we operate. Which is to say it is TL's house, and I'm a guest. I think most people appreciate where I'm coming from now which is really what I wanted more than anything. While I'd like to keep pushing us as a community towards improvements I mentioned, I don't want to be unreasonably unbearable. I'm aiming to be a more cordial "dangerous negro" (me Kwark are cool no worries) that keeps my compromises toward negative peace (ty for that acknowledgement Drone and others) to a fair amount by the standards of those with determinative power without entirely compromising my position. Maybe the best way I can make my point about these apologies is this: How would you feel, and what would you think of me if instead of writing this post I had only written I don't have an issue with people disputing GH's posting has improved, I would have a problem with someone suggesting I was not allowed to criticise GH. But I don't think not quoting GH's apology was an egregious oversight, I linked and quoted his post so anyone that thought he perhaps was completely repentant despite everyone knowing he had shown no remorse could see it. I thought people took away the important parts without it turning into a semantic argument about grammar, and I think the format I presented it in helped that happen. I'll take the criticism seriously though and be more thoughtful next time. I know that is not a great analogy, but would you think that final sentence was sincere and be satisfied or would you be annoyed and think I was a bit of a tosser?

Didn't mean to be condescending but communication is a two way street/also about how people interpret your words so I will refrain from laughing in cases I'm not sure it is meant in jest.
