Again, how did this come up with Obama and not with Clinton or Bush. They never had to show their birth certificate. Why the change of burden of proof? It's because he's black and his father is not American-born.

this is such a stupid rumor that ever started sigh.....at least with this, people can settle down. Still can not believe so many people were raging about this. :/

It would be nice if debates moved onto things that actually mattered, but early signs are this is not enough for a lot of people out there to prove he was born in the US. Regardless of the enormous leaps of faith you would need to believe he wasn't born in the US, there are those out there still clinging to that hope. Again, I think they have to ask themselves why it is so important that Obama be ineligible for the Presidency but they never thought to question if all those other guys who were President were acceptable.
Debates about how well or badly Obama is doing, whether McCain would have done worse, aren't actually what this thread is about. If you want to dip into that particular flame war, start a new thread.

I honestly don't get the argument made by the other side. I mean, it's as if they just don't like Obama, and are so stupid that they don't want to look at the issues.
I'm fine if you don't like his policies, but don't pretend he isn't American because he's black and you don't like him.

Pretty damn stupid it went this far, does the guy have no childhood friends? A elementary school year book? Not that I even want to know.

did people really still think he wasnt eligible, wow

i'm dissapointed in society
i thought we had come all this way. i thought we made progress in this kind of shit. like you would think we would be decent at tolerating differences but wow.

Realistically there is no way to know and it doesn't matter. The important question is why is the media and government giving this attention?

This happened to Clinton, as a recent case.
Funnily enough, McCain was born in Panama on a military base, but nobody doubted his citizenship.

Do the American people really think that there was not a thorough background check for all of this nonsense already? Sad....

As an outsider, I'd just like to say that stuff like this feels like a tragic comedy. Everything about this situation is funny, but ultimately sad.

People debated the McCain thing.

Well certain members of the opposition saw nothing wrong with just claiming none of his so called classmates remember him. Without evidence. Because, hey, who needs facts when you can lie and then run away to let the lie take form as gospel. Oldest trick in the book.

Don't all of us slaves have to show our birth certificates to get a passport? Driver's license? In fact, they even want circumcision records for a passport now.
Is it really that much of an outrage for the President of the United States to produce a birth certificate? Really?

He produced one 3 years ago during the campaign. The same sort of birth certificate you'd use to get a passport or for any other legal purpose. But wingers just stuck their fingers in their ears and "la, la, la, he's a Kenyan muslim soshulist usurper!!!"

Actually he was born on Non US soil. he was grandfathered into being natural born the next year when the place he was born BECAME us soil.

who cares if he is a citizen or not as long as he does his job...

Essentially, to those asking why release it now just to acknowledge the idiots, it all boils down to politics. If he can help to paint right wingers as idiots, it will help him when he runs for reelection in 17 months.
