If us giving thanks means we have a chance of getting better stuff in the future from them, then I for one will give a hell of of thanks..

Something along the lines of how the very sexy nature of TorcH led to more awesomeness.. That and GOMtv being a total baller!

If they said it wasn't a money making scheme and it was only used to cover the stream costs they wouldn't charge 50 dollars for live+vods. To stream across the world it'll cost them anywhere from 4 cents to 8 cents an hour. Assuming they give 3 hours of content a night, thats 24 cents per person, so they'd have to be giving over 170 hours of content at the highest price (8 cents an hour) even though we know they're not paying 8 cents an hour since their quality is 250 kb/s. All in all, if they planned ot have zero free stream and only a 50 dollar pay stream as the option for foreigners. Theyw anted to make money otherwise they would have charged something like 3 bucks for the month to recover costs. You're forgetting the salaries of Tasteless and Artosis and the extra work to manage their workplace and stream.

I don't know, I'd think they'd have to work to get customers and viewers instead of users trying to give their praise to encourage them. They could broadcast SC2 in the same quality they're running on Ustream for free. I figured Blizzard would be paying GomTV to advertise their game on a massive scale; potentially. I might sympathize and praise GOM if the normal stream was 480p quality and the premium was 720p. But the stream qualities are both too low to be taken seriously.

On the up side let's give it up to Torch for being seemingly so involved in solving the issue and also GomTV, their retraction might have restored SC2 hopes in becoming one of the big dogs in the young e-sport scene. I personally just can't help myself but feel inclined to pay for their premium service now, I am just a sucker for this game!

Perhaps when they are talking about covering the costs they are talking about using that money to pay Artosis/Tastless, or the people that have to work on/with the stream servers, administrative costs related to streaming. I'm not saying it's a good idea to do that, but it's just one of many possibilities. You may be right in the end, but I can give them benefit of the doubt on this occasion especially because we will probably never know all the real costs for sure.

Nice stream quality btw what a great way to show off those sc2 graphics I believe changing the low quality stream to free counts as an action. I think changing the price to $20 to include the higher quality stream as well as VODS counts as an action. Do these 2 changes not benefit fans directly and immediately?

The only free service is the low quality live stream. The matches are scheduled to start at 7pm for the opening day, and 6pm for the remaining round of 64. If I can do some simple math correctly, that's 6AM and 5AM EST, 3AM and 2AM PST, and 11AM and 10AM CET. Remember that all the matches except for the opening day are on weekdays. At least for me, free live stream is completely useless. As for video quality, 250k and 500k are extremely low (500k is hardly high quality). I'm seriously considering purchasing the premium ticket, but I worry that video quality will not be worth the money. For sc1, low video quality didn't matter as much, but from watching several videos on various sites, including GomTV sc2 videos on their korean site, it makes a huge difference. May be I'm complaining because of afreeca streams I watched while I was in Korea and all the HD commentaries on youtube. I'm really glad that Gretech is working to make their product more available to foreign esports fans. I'm well aware that Gretech is not as big or well established as Ongamenet or MBCgame, but it looks like they are working hard to improve. It would've been better if they can offer completely free service for the first season so that foreign fans can see what kind of services they are dealing with before they purchase it for the subsequent seasons, but that's probably selfish me trying not to cough up the money for the service. I'll have to think this over for next few days (I guess I'll miss the opening day matches) before I make up my mind. Thank you TorcH for the post and I wish you the best of luck at GSL.
