Gay StarCraft Players - Page 37

Don't post in this thread to say "gay gamers are like everyone else, why do they have a special thread?" It is something that has been posted numerous times, and this isn't the place for that discussion. For regular posters, don't quote the trolls.

It's a deviation in carnal human behaviour. I'm not sure I would call it a deviation, that implies that there is some sort of norm... sexuality is more of a spectrum isn't it? Some guys think boobs>ass Some guys think ass>boobs Some women like hairy men Some women like hairless men Some people really like feet Some guys like guys Some girls like girls Some people aren't bothered either way

The thread itself is not only meant to be a medium for gay players to be out and converse, but also for straight people to bring their questions about homosexuality. As far as numbers go, I'd say (Including me) around 10 or 11 have put forward that they were LGTB. I don't really want to post in a thread of this nature before people really know me, but this particular one is really too good not to. As far as myself, I'm gay and currently in college. I was raised in a strict conservative, catholic family, and went to catholic schools for the entirety of my life until college. I'm the youngest of 5 in my family, with 3 fairly aggressive older brothers, leading me to have a pretty shy, timid nature. As one can imagine, this caused a few issues with my sexuality as I was figuring it all out. I always assumed I was straight, but never really thought about sex or what I'm attracted to until my sophomore year in high school, when I was surprised to find my thoughts slipping into how good looked and things like that. As the natural for my upbringing, as I noticed these things, I went into denial, but deep inside I knew, and it made me pretty depressed. Thankfully, some good internet friends help me get through it and helped me accept who I am. For those who asked about why some gays are flamboyant, I can tell you that for many of them, that is who they are. I am not incredibly effeminate, but I do have some pretty girly features, namely long, accentuated eyelashes and pretty full lips. Also until I was about 8 or 9, I had the "s" lisp which would have made it obvious to anyone in my high school days. My parents noticed this, and gave me speech training every day until I stopped. This is why I have no problem with flaming gays, while some LBGT are vehemently against them. I'm sure there are some who like to play it up, and it is easy, because when you're out in an environment that shuns people of that nature, you have to look actively for others like you for to give a sense that you belong somewhere. There are many who do not, and the isolation becomes too much to bear, which is why teens with sexuality confusion are much more likely to commit suicide than straight teens. Even now, I'm still afraid to come out. I've moved far away from my family for college, into a generally much more accepting area, but my experience makes me scared to come out. When ever I think about saying it, I feel vulnerable and decide against it. It doesn't help that I'm playing hockey, and it could very well make the locker room incredibly uncomfortable for my teammates. If any of the members here have some suggestions on how I can, whether or not I should, I'd love them, but this thread makes me feel good already.

I'm actually really glad that this thread was made, I only knew about 3-5 active people on TL who ever mentioned that where gay, including Mora and the illustrious Mango who provides the TL vent server. (Thanks for that by the way) What surprised me the most where the number of people that where Trans, mainly because I know no one who is. I would like to hear some opinions about this: "Gay and lesbian politicians, and those suspected of being in this group, are now quite routinely expected to make a declaration of their sexuality, as straight ones, by and large, do not." From this article Not just about politicians either, that gay and lesbian people in general expected to make a declaration of their sexuality. For me, its just nice to know that there are other people out there, in my circle of friends, as well as being many other things, I'm the "gay one". Without sounding too emo, it does get lonely at times, so thanks Mora.

All in all, TL has a good LGBT community, and this thread shows good things.... the thread about the Japanese model however, is fucking horrendous.

Threads like that tend to be really bad, since it draws in a lot of ignorant people >< I really try and stay out of them, since it always feels like arguing with a wall.

In a perfect world they may as well be expected to make a declaration if they really like cars or wear contact lenses. As it is all you can do is hope that this is a passing stage and that more enlightnend thinking will eventually prevail. It's better than it was but still very very stupid.

It certainly seems that way for me right now... and now because I am fighting that ignorance I am being called out. Meh. I might just stick to this beautiful loving thread. It is much nicer to be with people who are not blinded by ignorance. =)

I have deep respect for you being that honest to post it on a site like Teamliquid - thats about what I wanted to say , even though I find it a bit strange to post it here :-) hopefully you don't take it as an offence. BTW I don't think someone is gay because he's into fashion.

Indeed but the contrary is true, gay men are a lot more attracted by fashion than straight men. And it's not a coincidence that 90% of the greatest fashion designers are/were gay (Dior, Gaultier, Balmain, Saint-Laurent, Mugler, Versace, Gabbana, Klein, Balenciega, Dolce, Valentino, and the list is long)

BTW I don't think someone is gay because he's into fashion. I'm curious, hypothetical situation where a guy hits on you unknowing that you are straight. Are you bothered by this, or is it basically what amounts to sexual harassment that bothers you? I ask because alot of people I know give a similar response to you, and sounds slightly like "I don't mind gays, as long as they aren't in public.
