so if anyone follows my blog (i hope not, cuz it's quite boring LOL).. they'll know im in china
so i figured, why not play some starcraft at internet cafe's, since for BW, it is KOR>CHN>USA
so today in guangzhou, i went to two different internet cafe's.. and no one played starcraft :[
i saw some FPS, MMO's, music games like Audition, quite a few Chinese DotA, but NO STARCRAFT.
i'm guessing everyone plays from home.. or it's not that popular in China T_T

Starcraft is usually launched via a launcher and they are all old versions.

Starcraft is not that popular in China. WC3 is.

Yes, people in China use and old version, and play on a private server called VS. VS works almost the same way as G-Arena. It is installed in every cafe. You need to create an account first though.

I never see Starcraft played in china. War3 is still extremely popular there though /yawn

I am in Shanghai vacationing right now and have went to several internet cafes here.
No one that I saw played SC1 or SC2.
All I saw was WC3, DotA, some other RTS's, some knock-off of Counter-Strike, WoW/other MMO's, Hearts, and other games (mostly casual ones).
SC isn't popular at all in China, it seems.
EDIT: On a side note, I also find it odd that a lot of people here still play King of Fighters '97 (oooold-ass game) and never play the newer installments or the Street Fighter series. Oh well, everyone has their preferences.

when i went to china the hotel had like 3 channels for gaming most of the games were wc3 however they did play one f91 games (vs a guy called "big panda") it was the same game over and over though :/

Guangzhou is my hometown! But yes, I have tried to play SC there too and failed.

If you wanna see SC in internet cafés you gotta go to Korea man T_T

people do not play starcraft in china in netcafes. it is no longer a popular title since it was designed in an age prior to gluttonous gimmickry and fascist operations. (also because its not marketable
half are playing wow, a chinese mmo, or dota
the other half are playing a browser game or one of countless dance titles. all are pay-to-play. In any given netcafe there will be the one or two decent war3 or sc players who "used to play" that game and who will know about Mr Ma and other legends. Even though everyone stills knows and appreciates the game they will say 操作要求太高了 or "the micro required is too high [to play]")...so they play mmos ...
People who are smart and good at games no longer play war3, sc, and the like with their time... rather, they play in online casinos... and live off of their winnings.
Most of the chinese SC scene takes place on a client similar to Garena (in fact it is exactly like garena since they copied VS who copied the HAOFANG game-client model).
anyway, the scene of good players is small and fairly tight-knit. You will need accounts on both QQ and VS game client to play with them. Be ready to play vs MANY zergs.
VS download In top right of screen (blue shield like logo)

Maybe it's rather a generation thing?
