I don't think everyone that played starcraft was immediately enamored with it either. You have to give SC2 a chance, it's really quite a similar and fun game (non Zerg races especially). If you still don't find it fun after more playing, maybe you just outgrew video games? It happens.
I think people see the "old days" of TL through nostalgia tinted glasses too much and project what they felt was great back then. Yes, there are new posters. Yes, there are a lot of them. But I think people greatly exaggerate how "good" it was back then. Dem youggin's are ruining the phorum. We need to get back to the good old days of Ronald Reagan-TL

I said that its hard to relate to younger posters who were introduced to the site solely through Starcraft 2. Read before you post please.

I guess I'm one of the new members, even though I didn't join when sc2 came out, I joined back when sc1 was awesome and I became interested in the progaming scene. I see the changes your talking about, but I think that new posters will either in time become cool people, or drift away pretty quickly. I also think that starcraft 2 doesn't have nearly as high of a skill ceiling as starcraft 1, hopefully the expansions will change that, if not, maybe some UMS or alternate game mode will evolve that progaming and competitive esports can build around, just as Dota did for Wc3(not that wc3 has no skill or that I want Dota for sc2).

I am a new forum registered person, but one thing you have to remember back in the "glory" days is that BW was already out for 4 years when this website was created(Not sure exactly on time) So you had the hardcore crowd who stuck with the game for the love of it.
Most of the people who annoy you with their stupid posts are the omg new game hype people. Once this game is released the number will drop, then after a year or two it will drop even more and those remaining will usually be quality posters and those who love SC in general.

There were no "glory days" TL was always a house of arrogant nerds doing what they do best. Sure there has been an influx of users since beta but that shouldn't change much. The mods ban anyone they please at a whim and that's why TL is so tightly nit.

I'm not arguing that there were "glory days," I'm saying that the advent of SC2 and with it the massive influx of younger users is fundamentally changing TL.

Give it time they'll adapt and evolve or they'll be banned.

there will also be cool new people to hit the scene and these forums. the more the merrier as long as the mods keep up with the banning i see the influx of new users only as an enrichment (i'm really excited what tl will look like 1 year from now - with the release of sc2 yet to come)

The worst part is people who come in with no respect for the BW community, no research into it's lore and all the excitement that BW is about.
What I mean is people like this: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=121769¤tpage=71#1403 http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=123892#12 who come in with a preemptive attitude, how most of BW fans are in love with the obsolete, and any new changes to the UI are for the better, more modern, and for the advancement of games in general.
Typically any suggestion towards SC2 to model something around BW is met with "SC2 is NOT BW"
So sick and tired of that argument, If FIFA 2010 had an amazing shooting system, should I not include it from FIFA 2011 because "FIFA 2011 is NOT FIFA 2010?"
+ Show Spoiler +Sequels are meant to TRANSCEND the previous; thus including an element from the previous which has been deemed extraordinary still allows for this fundamental principle to take place. This is not an argument for recreating brood war, but merely a counter example to the "SC2 is NOT BW" argument; changes can be good, and in fact most BW enthusiants don't mind half the changes.
However, the problem occurs when pretentious assholes shut down ANY mimicking idea with the argument that "SC2 is NOT BW."
Most of us tolerate changes, but as soon as we suggest something to remain the same it's met with this non profound, ridiculous, and seemingly justified argument
What it boils down to is pompous pretentious bullshit, which inevitably transgresses into a heated debate about semantics.
I know how you feel, I've been regularily visiting this site since 2004 (albeit this account registered in 2007), and I just don't have the heart to argue points anymore, because it all boils down to semantics.
+ Show Spoiler +In fact, it took me three years to get the balls to join the community; in 2004 I was below average skill level (like C- on PGTour) so I waited until I had a more in depth understanding of BW to finally join
