When you last had a problem with your computer, did you format it? Do you have zone alarm/norton installed? If you answer yes to both, then its very likely that your hard drives boot sector is infected. If so, a normal virus scan, even if updated, will not pick it up, and no amount of formatting will remove it.
But first, if you cant extract the dll file from your windows cd, just run a search on google and download it. Then copy it into your system32 folder. See if that fixes it.
And DO use zonealarm.
Let me know if copying a downloaded dll file fixes your problem. If he fdisks his harddrive it is like a brand new one, it removes boot viruses, my uncle who is the biggest computer guru in the world told me this and i have done it a few times before i reformat so i would definitely believe him but i have no real proof.
Fdisk DOES remove boot sector viruses. Unfortunately, over the last few years, boot sector viruses have become fdisk "proof". It has to do with what area of the boot sector is infected. In certain areas, running fdisk can actually destroy your boot sector, which is why fdisk isnt used to clean boot sector viruses anymore.

veg, now youre being stupid. Just because your computer may function ok for an hour doesnt suddenly mean you are cured. You wont be able to say you are cured until 2 weeks go by without a single problem, so stop with the idiotic "OMG WTF LOL!!" and give it some time.

reformat veg :[
on a side note, another thing i do like about all of the FPS community, we are also computer nerds
