by popular demand, added BroodWar's music as a separate pack, 70 MB. the game will now play all your race's tracks from both BW and SC2
BroodWar Ghost Seperate Soundpack
v0.5.2 - replaced Hydralisk Attack sounds with the BW acid spit sound we all love
v0.5.1 - remixed zealot attack sounds. now has SC2's slash sounds mixed with BW's grunt. volume of drone mining slightly increased
v0.5 Major update, raised volume for most sound effects. Actually has BW's Tank voice sounds now. Fixed a few other sounds
v0.4.1 Fixed Siege Mode/Tank Mode sounds, it was backwards.
v0.4 Marine attack, Zergling attack, and M&M Stimpack Sounds replaced
v0.3 and older updates includes many replaced death screams (however I cannot choose how it gets picked, and the game seems to randomly choose the generic explosion sounds often instead), as well as some other updates and removal of music that the new patch already added
after 500+ games of hearing zerg's overlord creep slushing, and "We require more minerallzzz," I decided to make a soundpack for SC2. I did not like the "We cannot hold!" and "We're gonna need some help here!" sounds at all either. And I prefer a lot of the original BroodWar sounds over SC2, especially for zerg but for some protoss as well, and a tiny bit of terran.
As for the Legality of using this on Bnet, well I'm not modifying any game files, all this is is a .ZIP file that extracts into SC2 beta folder, and the SC2 Beta client automatically chooses to use the new files over the originals, so I can't imagine it being against the rules since they designed it this way.. plus it doesn't give advantages over your opponents.
Unit sounds replaced with BW sounds:
the zerg "advisor" sounds
Drone
Zergling
Overlord
Mutalisk
Hydralisk
Ultralisk
Broodlord (Guardian)
Egg/Larvae
the protoss "advisor" sounds
Zealot
High Templar
Dark Templar
Observer
Carrier
Archon
the terran "advisor" sounds
Siege Tank
Removed Sounds (replaced with blank files):
all unit 'We cannot hold!' like sounds, except SCVs (note you still hear "our forces are under attack" anyways)
Overlord generating creep
Sound effects replaced with BW sounds, and/or edited/mixed
Nearly every BW-equivalent unit Death sound replaced with BW sounds
Medivac Heal, Unload/Load
Marine Attack
Zergling Attack
Hydralisk Attack
Stimpack (marine/marauder must share the same sound)
Ultralisk Attack (mixed the attack-roar from BW with slice-sound from SC2)
Mutalisk Attack
Drone Mining
Zealot Attack (mixed grunt with SC2 slashes)
Dark Templar Attack
Archon Attack / Warp
Scanner Sweep
Several UI/Bnet Clicks and Sounds
Several Building Response/Placement/Death sounds
Siege Mode/Tank Mode
Siege Attack
Psi Storm
Photon Cannon Attack
Overlord Load/Unload
Of course if you dislike any of my changes you can just go delete the files that you don't like (for example: if you prefer the SC2 Zealot sounds, find the zealot unit sounds in Localized Data folder and delete them).
Unfortunately many of the sound effects were shared with others and I cannot change that without modifying the MPQ file. So most of the unit deaths are explosion sounds shared with several other units so there's not much I can do about that.
To install, unzip any of these files into your Starcraft II Beta folder (in program files, NOT the my documents folder)

To uninstall, remove or rename the \Assets, \LocalizedData, and \Battle.net\Sounds **NOT** the entire Battle.net folder!!
Random tip for those who ever want to Uninstall SC2 Beta: + Show Spoiler +
Backup the \My Documents\Starcraft II Beta folder, or you'll lose all your replays and settings! Along with any files in your \Program Files\Starcraft II Beta folder that you may want to save, such as this soundpack. The uninstall doesn't care and removes *everything,* wtf!
