Sup, here's the deal:
My girlfriend's birthday is Sept. 10, and I haven't gotten a gift yet. Been together with her for a little over a year, last year I got her this necklace but I don't really want to go out shopping for jewelry.
Will obv take her out to eat, and get some sort of card (ughhh), but any gift ideas would be good. Since there is a bit of a time constraint, it would be appreciated if replies were serious .
Obligatory picture:

ahahaha lol wow that thread was good

yeah, just reread that thread, pretty funny
since then I have moved from Hsinchu to Taipei, Taiwan and had a minor cockroach problem but haven't had any bug/spider encounters since
as for her tastes...I'm pretty open about what to get her, although I'd rather get something practical (although I guess that isn't in the spirit of the birthday)
small gift, too, so we're talking about ~$40-50

Well, since we know her so well I think she would really like,

Hmmm some perfume ? Don't know what are the prices there though :/ In France it is around 40-50 euros depending of the brand and volume so a bit higher than your budget . Also you need to know which flavors she likes.
I also like good aromatized frankincense sticks ( with different flavours ). This shouldn't be too expensive.

The best gift i ever received: The box was pretty nothing to expensive but i liked it. In the bottom of the box was a pair of underwear in silk and they were covered with fun random stuff. A key ring, homemade candy, bought unusual candy, my favorite candy, a stone (probably collected from a beach), a picture of me and her, a fancy condom and a few more things.
On top of everything was a handwritten note on a piece of cloth that said a few words, and it was sprayed with her Perfume.
She probably spent more then two days though

Try to stay away from the boring and "expected" things such as flowers/card/chocolate (or even jewelry later in life). Those are far nicer at random / unexpected times.
For her birthday buy something you know she likes (eg: what's her favorite band / movie / does she collect pillows / like to travel / enjoy a particular food you can't ordinarily buy in stores, etc.). Money is not the focal issue here, it is the thoughtfulness / how well you show you know her that counts.
PS: this fits with Patriot's comment above.

That is AWESOME.
I'm seriously going to forward this to my girlfriend. You're a lucky guy.

Yea actually i agree with you guys. Perfume are cool but that's not a very original idea... but the main problem is that we don't know her as much than you so you will only get general advices or ideas of "classic" gifts.

There's only one rule to gift giving: It has to be something the receiver wants, but wouldn't buy for themselves.
So basically, a really high grade appliance they use often, expensive food, something you make yourself, or a foot long dildo in the shape of MC Hammer... Or a foot long dildo in the shape of MC Hammer you made yourself.

Best gift I ever gave: The calendar was bought in one of those "one of everything" stores. It looked very good and had an classic but modern feel.
I glued stuff into the calendar here and there. Example: A coin from our visit to Cyprus with a few words about how nice that is to think back on. An old gum package with inspiring words about her tasting like strawberry gum naturally. I also wrote lyrics from songs we like and stuff like that into the calendar.
Oh and I almost forgot, I glued an actual Four-leaf clover into it. It took me 2 hours to find a good one (found one crappy that I gave to my mother lol).
I also had 7 special days marked into the calendar. These days was marked noted down in my own gcal for me to remember about them but it turned out it was unnecessary as she was very curious when a special day got close =)
A special day was me thinking "how to make her very happy today" It involved me preparing a very nice dinner a few times and the finale was a weekend trip

I like that you took a picture of the two of you at Costco. Nothing says love like buying in bulk.
How about a ring? Obviously not something expensive or terribly suggestive, but it could be tasteful and within your skillset to find.
