Yeah I know, an odd combo of a topic :D Well I always liked chess but never got to play it much and I finally got to play a few games today on my computer (My new laptop has some nice Chess game on it which is good for killing time)
So I was kicking the crap out of the computer because I am a baller and somehow I kept getting draws in situations where I obviously won. Is there a rule in Chess that you can't force a checkmate if you will lose a piece for it? I just don't get why I drew in these situations when Clearly I won and my King was not in jeopardy at all.
Pixx :D + Show Spoiler [Game 1] + + Show Spoiler [Game 2] +
Well all answers appreciated :D
Next thing!
What do you guys prefer Arizona Iced Tea or Arizona Sweet Tea? Me and my girlfriend were arguing over what drink we should put in my 5 gallon drink machine (It just keeps drinks cold and dispenses it while keeping the drink mixed) Its one of those things you see spinning lemonade at a pretzel stand or something. I will throw a picture up if anyone wants to see what it looks like.
So back to poll.
Poll: WHAT TEA U LYK? (Vote): Arizona Iced Tea (Normal) (Vote): Arizona Sweet Tea (Southern Style)

well with the chess, the problem with those 2 games is that the king is not under attack, ie you have no piece that could take the king in those formations. Because Black has no legal moves left and the king is not under attack, it is a draw. You should be more careful with placement so you can get the win!
as for the tea i can't say since i don't drink AZ iced tea.

You should just read the official rules of chess whenever you get confused... there are a few rules that are not that well known among casual players.
edit: if you were beating the computer despite not knowing what a stalemate is then you probably had the ai set to a pretty easy difficulty :p
edit: I also play chess vs whoever wants to on tl

What I would recommend would be to learn how to checkmate with just a king and a rook or a king and a queen. That will help you avoid this type of draw, which is called a "stalemate"

You're pretty much living the dream

The three firsts posts above me summed up the chess issue. Accidental stalemates are the bane of any learning chess player T_T

Thanks a lot guys, I see what you mean. I was playing and forced him into a corner so that no matter where he moved he would of been in check mate, but he was not directly in check mate. Can anyone link me to a good site with the Chess rules? I figure I could google it by why not make you punks work :D
And yes, Drink machine is awesome. It is new BFF. In fact, I might have to break up with the girlfriend for this one.
I am also happy my side of the poll is winning. Sweet tea blows.

haha, i once had a clear win in a club game (pic I'm white)
and moved to Ke6 instead of Ke5 T_T
but yeah, stalemate :/
I prefer southern sweet tea homemade, not Arizona
edit: btw, yahoo chess is pretty good. playing people > playing the computer. way more fun, chess.com is good too if you can't play a full game all in one sitting

I suggest chess.com since it has both live play and online play (correspondence), as well as many other features.
Stalemates are annoying when there is a timer, but if you aren't rushed then you just have to take a second to find a legal move your opponent will have after you make the move you are planning.

I'm ridiculously overrated on chess.com because either my opponent makes a dumb mistake or runs out of time almost every game lol
