So 10 ago, I sent an application for a study permit for Canada to the nearest Canadian Embassy to Bahrain which was in Abu Dhabi, UAE. I made sure I met all the requirements. I followed their checklist. I am confident nothing was missing. My dad even double checked to make sure nothing was missing.
This morning I woke up to a phone call telling me that my application was returned due to a problem with application fees. I asked, "what was the problem?" Turns out the application fee was 125CAD. The bank draft I had sent was for 125.5CAD.
Now what the fuck is with that? Just because I payed 0.5 dollars extra, 10 whole days of processing time was wasted? Isn't it beneficial to the Embassy that I pay extra? Apparently not. "Here is you're 125.5 dollars back sir. Please resubmit your application with only 125 dollars." AFTER 10 FUCKING DAYS. This really pisses me off since 0.5 dollars is NOT worth an entire 10 fucking days!!
The reason I'm pissed is because I was told that it took around 2 months to process and issue a study permit to Canada through the Abu Dhabi Canadian Embassy. My school term begins on September 10. Orientation starts on September 6. I already booked for a flight on September 5. It's still possible to get the permit in time but still... 10 whole days wasted because the embassy wants to be nice and save me 0.5 dollars?
Oh well... at least I know the embassy cares about my spare change -_-
/end rant

That's ridiculous. I'm currently trying to get a study visa too, so much red tape and ridiculous forms and fees... I feel your pain!

As dumb as this sounds, people can give them shit about that extra .5, and then they have to decide what to do with that extra .5, its dumb as fuck but I understand where they are coming from. I mean you might not care, but someone else might be why did they take my 0.5? I want my 0.5 back, and so on. People aren't reasonable, don't expect them to be.

What the fuck? "Oh no he gave us an extra 50 cents, SEND IT BACK SEND IT BACK!"
So stupid of them -_-

Party school!
But yeah, I feel your frustration. It's pretty hard to believe that they don't know how to process a bank note with an extra 50 cents, but apparently that's the case. Unfortunately, when it comes to paperwork, regulations and procedures take priority over common sense =(

This sort of thing is one among many reasons why nationalized services are a bad idea.

How did you manage to send 50 cents extra? o.o
