So after 5 weeks (halfway through the regular season), I gotta say that I really like the XFL. The teams are obviously still meshing together and improving week to week, the QB/play in general has been much better than expected, HOU/STL have been excellent teams to watch and see the fans show up to support. There are a lot of players I could see breaching into the NFL next year with what they have showed already. Penalties have been very limited and the pace of the game has been good, fully transparent review system, league owning up to mistakes immediately is so refreshing.
PJ Walker (HOU) and Jordan Ta'amu (STL) are going to be NFL backups next year. They both are really talented.
Going to try to catch the STL/NY game towards the end of March for CHEAP. If any of you live in an area where you could go to games, GO! It's nice to have an alternative pro-league to NFL, and showing up is the main way to support. Tickets are as low as $25 each, and the atmosphere is really great.

That is great to hear, with how popular the NFL is I have always thought it is crazy that an alternative/minor team system was not viable. Hoping it will continue and excellent to hear it is a great live experience.

XFL the only current "major" sports league in the US that hasn't announced any cancellations. Vince McMahon taking his time with the assessment of the ongoing crisis.
Edit: Nvm they cancelled now

new CBA passed for the NFL

Thank goodness, I'm already not enjoying life without pro sports, I can totally understand why they are not happening now, but fighting between millionaires and Billionaires is bad. I heard it was a really close vote, and I don't know enough about the ins and outs to know if it is a good deal. But I'm glad that when people are healthy and safe we will have football back.
|
I'm upset I don't have any football news to follow. My Cornhuskers can't practice or hold spring game now. NFL is readying for the draft which I assume will be a huge video conference or just a scrolling text of players selected to which teams.

Jags trading away Calais Campbell for peanuts is a heartbreak. He was a cornerstone for the culture of the team, and such a wonderful guy. Why, Jaguars, whyyyyy?
At least it wasn't the dumbest trade in the division, as the Texans trade DEANDRE HOPKINS for DAVID FUCKING JOHNSON. Did Bill O'Brien not see how useless DJ has been over the past three years???????
|
Just saw that news. I'm like...wtf is David Johnson?
|
How did they do this? Basically a top 3 WR on a good deal for a over paid always injured back and a second? ?? ??? ??? ?????????????????????????? ????? ????

Came here immediately to be like WTF about the Hou-Ari trade. Texans are getting a 2nd and giving up a 4th, still don't know what this deal is tho. Hopkins has a good case for being the #1 receiver in the NFL, and he's being paid modestly for a superstar. DJ being paid not that much less for nonexistent production the last 2 years. Fuller strikes me as a guy who excels as a #2 but will struggle as a 1. Feel bad for Deshaun, and Hou fans.

Fuller can't even stay on the field. Either can DJ, that is a big yikes.

Houston wanted to get out way in front of the race for worst off-season trade, it appears.

They have succeed. This is a All decade at least and likely a all timer.

On the plus side, glad the Ravens got Calais Campbell for a 5th rounder that they got for a backup kicker who got cut twice after they traded him (its free real estate). There was talk of them going after him in FA but they always find a way to get it done cheap.
Been reluctant to check on NFL news since the postseason heartbreak, but LJ8 is far from a disappointment, and I'm super excited for next season.

Bill O'Brien is way over his fucking head. The Hopkins trade is probably as egregious as when the Raiders traded a first rounder for a rusty Carson Palmer.

I'd say it is up their with Saints trading all their picks for ricky williams.

Colts trade their 1st round pick to the 49ers for DeForest Buckner

That one makes a lot more sense for both teams.
