Source in french but tldr : France prepares itself for an "Italy Scenario", schools will be closed on monday and people unable to work from home will be taken care by the government. Testing will now be reserved for sick people at risk/hospital staff. Unless it's an emergency, you're not supposed to go to your doctor/hospital if you're showing symptoms.

This is spreading too fast to put it off any longer than that. I'm right next to Montgomery county which was the first hotspot in the Philadelphia area. This morning we were initially instructed to work from home tomorrow, that has since escalated to preparation for full teams to be working remotely for the next 2 weeks if not longer. I can't believe how quickly this has ramped up in the last 24 hours

Luckily for me, my boss is taking this extremely seriously.

I just know the death rate is higher than the flu but I don't feel like I actually know what I'm talking about. Anyone have a good summary of Corona vs Flu?

Everything is still preliminary but this is a good summary of current knowledge. Also, 1) its passed around in a slightly different manner (more surface-dependent, lives on surfaces longer, doesnt stay airborne long). 2) Kills you in a different way (the pathology is different).

It's troubling how eerily similar the spread of coronavirus is to the diseases I make from Pandemic. Hopefully it doesn't evolve extremely deadly symptoms once everyone is infected...

From today, gatherings of over 100 people are off, sports clubs are closed, people are supposed to work from home whenever possible. Schools are still open, though. But no police checks and fines, as far as I can see. Hope people start taking this seriously, the mentality is still mostly 'nothing bad will happen to me'. And I still don't understand the toilet paper hype. 2 rolls can last me a month, it doesn't make sense to have bigger TP than food supplies? During the time of the month a roll can be used in about 2 days. That's 125 sheets per day.

With all these reports of Trump hanging out with Corona peeps, I can't help but feel like there's a huge elephant in the room. We have this data, which suggests a low double / high single digit percentage chance of death. That also would suggest a significantly higher percentage chance of being very ill and requiring a hospital stay than 10 percent.

For youngish western Europeans this is starting to become the biggest event in our lifetimes and three weeks ago nobody gave a shit except making bad jokes about China. Netherlands will probably be too slow with everything since making money is our nations #1 priority
