I also have some pokémon I've been transferring from game to game for more than 10 years, and if even one of them can't be transferred I'd feel pretty bummed out People are different and it should be somewhat easy to understand that for some people not being able to get their favourites into the new games is a major bummer

I had one for the first 6 gens, took hundreds of hours to make across X, Y, Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. Considering how long it takes to make one, it makes sense for people to be upset. The other issue is that certain pokemon can learn moves in old generations but not new ones. For example, Dratini could learn Extreme Speed, a very useful move for its evolution Dragonite, in Heart Gold/Soul Silver but not in future games. To have a Dragonite for battles with that move requires transferring from an old game. It will limit the move pool for competitive battling. Same with chain breeding moves.

Updating graphics and adding animations for 1000+ pokemon vs doing it for 200 is quite a big difference.

That's why gen6 ran kinda iffy in battle, and with the trainers, gen7 was painful if more than 2 pokemon were on the screen and made 0 use of 3D outside of the camera. Literally the only thing they're doing model-wise in gen8 is making models for the new pokemon which they'd have to do anyway.

They will continue to run with the gen 6 models? As I said, decision that's necessary for the future.

You'd still be able to transfer the Dratini forward via Home. The issue is if they decide not to put Dratini in the Galar dex, you won't be able to move your ESpeed Dratini forward at all until a future release when Dratini is legal It's not clear to me if this is a new philosophy going forward, or if they're going to add all the pokemon in a future game (Gen 4 remake or Pokemon Spear/Pokemon Tonfa) If it's a time constraint thing, it makes sense to me to lengthen how long a generation last to give them time to put everything in, and release something else each holiday season (remake, third version, experimental game ala Let's Go) to buy time for the new generation

The fact that the leaks were real caught everyone off guard though.

"Oh new gen doesnt give me the move, no worries i get it from old gen" shouldnt really be the norm... I agree. Plus getting rid of Z moves is a fantastic decision too. My least favourite mechanic.

I haven't been following any details at all, but am looking forward to FE on Switch quite a bit. + Show Spoiler + Basically, the school setting is a red herring and the story is actually fairly dark the leak included details such as the 5 year time skip that comes with the characters getting new portraits, which was confirmed at E3 so it seems likely the leak is legit

I really dont understand the outcry I only played Gen 1 and Gen 2, and Sword/Shield was going to be a way for me to make up for the missed generations. Since that can't happen anymore, I'll probably just play the hell out of Banjo-Kazooie on Smash and other awesome games.
