People retweet content, post content as well if you're a streamer. It's a lot more likely that people outside of the BW scene will see if it we do it. The people of melee did it and I feel it'll help us as well. I was talking to Drekkan (SC2 guy on his show the other day) and honestly the biggest problem BW has is there's no avenues of promotion. Unless you know TL exists and BW is a thing on it you won't find it. BW people don't use reddit and they still don't really use twitter. Those are the two main platforms for spreading content and getting views outside of Youtube and Twitch itself and if we want to drive up the viewership numbers for everyone we need to hook people in who are not already looking for BW content.

Yeah this is pretty true. I get a lot of viewers from Twitter from the other scene's I've been in. It's hard to find BW in any large social media format.

Those are the two main platforms for spreading content and getting views outside of Youtube and Twitch itself and if we want to drive up the viewership numbers for everyone we need to hook people in who are not already looking for BW content. Stuff like this won't help move the needle tho, to grow BW we need to (player base, viewer base etc.): 1) Improve the product - Cross region latency has to be improved, the foreign scene needs a server merge and some sort of cross region friend list merge, team matchmaking needs to be implemented.. basically a vast QoT improvement. 2) Regular tournaments or a circuit needs to be formed in order to create story lines, if the viewers can't form a connection with the players then they simply won't invest their time into the game. The main selling point BW has is obviously the amazing gameplay and our big name personalities/casters. Atm people tune into "foreign" BW events once in a blue moon just to watch Tastosis/Inc/Day9 and company, you obviously can't retain or grow your viewer base that way. BW's main chance of a true resurgence comes from their selling power and reach (especially Day9 but who knows if he even wants to get involved with BW related content creation or work), there needs to be a constant source of high appeal content. This also means supporting the foreign scene in order to create a Korea vs The World dynamic. We also have the ability to tap into amazing tournament formats like Proleague in order to draw more people into the scene, Proleague was and will always be a big seller. Grassroots stuff (STPL/BSL/HAY etc.) are obviously great but we're just cycling through the same viewer base. You'll only truly feel the impact of grassroots events when the game gets an influx of viewers, those events help keep the game fresh and they hook viewers to the scene (which in turn helps grow other community members etc.). For example, you know War3 is gonna be huge in the west mainly because of Grubby's star power and his gamer mindset. He already has a massive/loyal following in place so he can pour all his energy into the game (obviously willingly, i doubt he's gonna play any other game) and create a ton of content for the scene, there's gonna be a trickle down effect and the entire scene will flourish. That'll draw other big streamers to the game, which brings in new viewers to the scene etc. But at the end of the day is doing any of this worth Blizzard's time/money/effort? Personally i think the return could definitely be worthwhile but there's a lot of moving parts that they have to consider, they might even be concerned about potential drawbacks if BW overlaps too much with SC2 etc.

BW is a pretty unwelcoming game to newcomers, both in terms of the difficulty and in terms of the BM you'll experience on ladder and even in BGH games, etc. when you first start out. Before worrying about posting BW shit on social media, we should think about why people would start playing a 20-year-old, hard-as-hell game, only to be constantly insulted and bullied throughout the learning process as they struggle alone on ladder or practice with the 1-2 friends they have who also play BW. CPL provides a great environment to get into the game and meet other players. Slightly better matchmaking and more casts of progames will get people's attention, but CPL and similar things are what will actually provide them with a way to get into the scene and start really playing, imo. Liquipedia is also garbage in terms of providing info for new players, so as I see, it your options to learn the game if you're currently new are: 1) CPL 2) watch progames and try to learn (a difficult way to learn, and will be made more difficult by Tastosis/et al. providing misinformation) 3) go on Liquipedia, and try to play garbage builds like this: 2 Gate Range Expand because you don't know why not to 4) personally know someone who is willing to teach you 5) ask for help in this forum (you have to put yourself out there, and you're gonna get conflicting and contradictory responses) Also, when they do implement 2v2 matchmaking, I personally think it's going to be a shitshow and almost no one will even use it. Lots of players with massive skill disparities already get matched in 1v1, so when the number of other people needed to start a game is multiplied by three I don't see how that will be improved, nor how queue times are going to be kept reasonable.

All it takes is one free weekend for some community work. :D I'm not even talking about constant streaming, just uploading VODs here and there, people will find them eventually and make good use of them.

I know many clans have B-teams and such, but I still don't think it's being well enough communicated. I've had several people joining ReV who seemed like ReV was nearly the only option, since they didn't feel they would be good enough to join any other clan, and we were very clear that we took in players regardless of skill. However, I do like the Twitter initiative. Regardless of what's "the best way to save BW", the very core of building something is supporting initatives that seek to build the community. Seeing as this is one such thing, I'll make myself a Twitter account and join the initative \o/

Would help if Blizz could advertise the league on the launcher (we also need spotlight streams etc). I agree. However, there still exists a large newcomer gap. CPL works perhaps for a guy coming over from SC2, or maybe another RTS. For a totally new player, CPL is still gonna be a rough experience. Even the tier 3 guys are vastly better than a new RTS player. I'm not sure if there is a good answer, but I'm sure a huge percentage of truly new players that start BW don't stay long because let's face it, most people don't want to put in 50 or 100 hours of play to start even being able to consider winning a single game.

We've got at least a couple of clan members who're completely new, some literally started playing SC:R when remastered launched. It's fully possible to have them stay, so long as clans pick them up and truly signal that it's fine to completely suck and rather play with clan mates, get help from them etc. Which in turn will make laddering a bit easier, as they'll have a "home" to vent in, as well as having a lot more immediate feedback which will make progress easier.

https://www.reddit.com/r/starcraft/comments/9y607s/irradiate_so_strong_it_hits_you_irl/ I posted this yesterday after chatting with TT1 and hearing nobody on /r/starcraft cares about Broodwar and that clip since then has gone from 100 views to 4745 as of the time of this post. Also Incomplete you're one of the most welcoming members in the entire community. If more people were as welcoming as you were the community would be a much nicer place <3

Better youtube and search algorithms will help too, tons of viable viewers there. It would require funneling that viewership elsewhere if there is a desire to grow. CCV for StarCraft is kinda up and up lately. Most times I see someone live it's >50 viewers at the top which used to barely ever happen. It's a slow steady pace.

I mean, twitter seems more buggy than SC:R on release date o_O Hopefully I'll get it in order and get to following people! (PS: All the nice words and encouragements were very, very dear <3 )

what I think is honestly: look at what brain did in Russia, that's beyond amazing. If we can have more life events, where you enter and people meet and chat n talk, we will foster our sense of commitment. of course it is all grassroots stuff, but honestly after spending years of my life into making bw great again, My passion for grassroots outgrew my passion for the big stage. I guess it's just me and gecko because we are silly veterans in this ^^
