If viewed as a reference to Little Briar Rose the thorns would represent protecting Casca's heart from the outside preventing her to be further hurt. The only way to prevent her from getting further hurt would be by cutting of all her emotions. Given the her "empty" expression we see in the final panel and Miura's frequent references to legends and fairy tales this is at least my theory.
I'm most interested in seeing how her relationship with Farnese and Schierke develops considering they have seen the innermost of Casca.

355 out, yet again a very nice chapter

Casca doesn't even look like herself. None of the characters really do. I don't know what is up with this art style but it looks completely alien.
Also that "awakening" was incredibly underwhelming. And we literally walked 5 steps forward in this chapter before it ended. Like holy shit how many more years is this island going to take?

Nice chapter. Now it begins. What will come out of those memories was always the question. And those guts panels.

How long til the next attempted rape on Casca so it melts her brain again

Pretty short considering everything in the new world wants to rape you and then kill you

The last couple of pictures were gorgeous. Even if there's no way the story ever finishes it's still a pleasing piece of art to follow.
Isn't the fact that Casca is drawn differently explained quite directly on the panel where they discuss how she is/they are two completely different persons? And maybe it's a quite tacked-on, unpleasant explanation but I can also imagine that Miura got tired of drawing her in this way for the past 10(?) years and wanted to do something different. But that's just thinking out loud and the actual explanation on the pages sits well with me.

Personally I actually like her new design. She haven't been the warrior she used to for years, she has been in an innocent childlike state instead she has only just recently been "reborn".

Reaction to 356
MIURAAAAAAA!
God damn you.

I actually prefer this over another drama chapter. Wish it were longer/better set up though.

Although I was already looking for the May chapter, I messed up the release cycle somehow, so it turns out I haven't yet read 356 released two weeks ago.
I actually then had to read it twice to grasp what's it about, I also wish it would have been a bit smarter about setting it up. But the chapter itself then is great, Miura has some of the best presentation of battles, there is great pace to the action and good angles or I don't know what that makes it clear to oversee the whole deal.
Also, those war-flags made of skin are more horrifying in themselves then most horror movies in their entirety.

what a fucking troll I thought it would be a break after Casca's scream, but this chapter isn't much better chapter is too short (might make the wait longer for Casca), no setup on the war, and why should we even care that Griffith is killing some giants... =( he's the one who brought them here anyway
argh, I just wanted to see Casca, we waited so many years for that

Yeah i don't understand this chapter either. There was such a build up with the healing of Casca and everything falls flat right before the apex with some random giants coming from nowhere.

You're more optimistic than I am, I fully expect that we'll never see a real end to this.
