I am seventeen years old and a rising senior in high school on summer break. I've gotten caught stealing and doing salvia by my parents last december.
Ever since then my parents and I have gotten along relatively well while I was grounded. I was grounded for 6 months and finally they agreed to let me loose.
But I had to take SAT's in June and they asked me to study my ass off just for that one week before the June SAT. I tried to study but I did not study nearly as much as I should have. I know I fucked up and I regretted it after taking the test. My parents were disappointed in me and didnt buy me the laptop they had promised.
Anyways I was so relieved that I finished the test and that I was finally on summer break. The last semester of that year (junior), I was failing precal the entire semester until the final, passing the class witha 71.
All the pressures of SAT and my junior year were finally over. I was expecting a summer filled with going out with friends, staying over at friends, no curfew, and doing w/e the fuck I want.
Well so far all Ive been doing is staying at home, going to the gym, kendo, going to church, and doing my AP Bio webassign shit. My parents did let me sleep over my friends house twice last week but I was seriously expecting them to let me sleep over anywhere anytime. But they told me to start studying for the october SATs starting today. They do not let me stay out past 10 and they constantly call me to check on me.
I had a talk with my mom before and asked her why I couldnt go out when it is summer break and she told me herself that she doesnt care what I do anymore because in the end its my future and doesn't affect her. I was satisfied with that.
But I told her I was going to the gym earlier today and she bitched at me and told me to study. Now seriously I am wondering why I cant go out let alone to the gym to work out.
I know this is a really childish blog but seriously idk wht the fuck to do. Am I just being immature and childish? Is it the norm for my parents to do this? I've heard how junior year is extremely painful but I didnt expect the summer to be any different from any other year.
If my opinion is actually reasonable, hopefully, what can I do to let my parents know and understand that I want some freedom. Anything please :D
If I am being immature and should just study and stay home all summer please tell me.

Move out and make your own decisions?

lol youre not the only one that was a failure at precalc. PHEWWWW. now i have so many calc to get over with. WAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
|
Precalc has to be one of the easiest math classes in high school
OK back to topic......
Vedic: Not even close imo because he's going to be a senior in high school. Maybe if he were older... Baydori why don't you make some agreement with your parents?
Like... If you do a certain amount of work for the day, you can do whatever the fuck I want. That's what I did with my parents during last summer. So basically I do all my work I need to do, show them, and I'm free!
haha

Sorry for being harsh, but if you expect your parents to give you any freedom, you better start showing them some results. It's obvious they want you to do well academically. If you try telling them that you need freedom, I can almost guarantee they'll tell you that you won't get any until you step it up. Do what they want and after a while, they'll let you do what you want.

EDIT: Okay, I get it.
Basically what B1nary said, work hard and show them you mean well. Hell, you have to build trust with them all over.

Yes.

Your a dumbass for doing pot somewhere you could get caught, be more sneaky next time :D

I agree with B1nary basically. They probably dont trust you to do anything productive on your own so they're setting rules to give you a push in the right direction...hoping you dont fail completely. As for the gym, well, if they just refuse to let you look after your health then do as much working out as you can in the house.

im in the same problem as you, except i never failed a class, and never got caught stolen anything.

It's not like he's in danger if he doesn't work out 1 less day per week.
I think your parents are pretty being pretty reasonable. Imagine how much things would be different if you had done better on your tests/grades. I know it seems silly, but you admit yourself that you didn't try hard enough. Plus, they are still giving you some leeway, just not full because I don't think you've proven yourself yet.

hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha your parents are asses. sucks to be you.

several things:
1) since you got stealing / doing saliva, and barely passed a class... I think you forfeit your right to say "hey I can do w/e the fuck I want this summer" ...
2) Your parents are really trying to get you to do what's best for you. Maybe they aren't going about it 100% the right way, but know that their intentions are the best for you... that's their job: to look out for you during the period of time where you are too young to do it yourself (like, right now).
I don't know about what kind of academic / career aspirations you have... but if you have any serious ones, then junior / senior year of HS are the MOST important. People who say senior year is supposed to be a breeze, are either a) already set to go to a very good school, or b) are not academically competitive. So, you should be taking a difficult course load, and be working really hard to do as well as you can possibly do this summer / next year, especially if junior year wasn't your best.
Your parents are trying to tell you that indirectly. You should put in a lot of work, but have a talk with them and just ask them to give you a bit of freedom if you show them that you are also doing work. Something like: Study 3-4 hours in the morning, do w/e ... study 1-2 more hours, then have the rest of the night to do w/e you want. Outline a schedule, talk it over with them, and follow the schedule.
If you do it in a reasonable / logical manner, I can almost guarantee you will get positive results from your parents, provided they aren't 100% immovable.
So ya, you are KIND OF being immature, but I guess it's natural. Just realize that they are looking out for your best interests (like any good parent would do), and you should trust their judgment.
