I hope he wins this GSL too! and yeah those thors were awesome! I found it funny though how he said his TvZ was the match up he was afraid of xD. Maru has one of the best TvZ's rn imo. He literally shreds through the other Zergs (apart from those games at SSL vs Dark)
Yeah I found that confusing too. I think he just wanted to be friendly to Gyuri and don't disagree with her. She implied in her question that he was not doing so well in that matchup so he just went with it I guess.

LOL. I actually don't know what is the deal with 3 rax reapers opening from Maru. He said he wanted to play vs Z in the group selection so I thought he would be comfortable playing macro stuff. I think he lives in the same house with sOs for too long. He becomes like sOs. Super weird and cheesy.
I mean.. He was trying to be like ByuN. Maru has said he doesn't feel confident vs Zerg and ByuN destroys them with that style. Personally I think when Maru plays his own style hes a terrifying player :D
I don't think Maru needs to cheese at all to beat ByuN. I think his standard army positioning and playstyle can beat ByuN. Maru is one of those guys who can be very cheesy but his micro, macro and multi tasking are all very solid.
ByuN's micro and multi-tasking are as good as Maru's if not even better, so it's gonna be a close call imo.
I would like Maru to win but his performance yesterday in the GSL didn't convince me. Still, ByuN screwed up in the SSL as well, so at the end of the day they may be on equal footing.
I think Maru should beat ByuN. ByuN's TvT is not that impressive. Also, he is emotional player. You just need to win like first game and he already starts to fall apart.
Maybe, bring a picture of his puppy and draw a mustache on it. That will mess with him as well.

Somehow I doubt Maru will go 7 rax reaper again so I wouldn't worry.
He is a better overall TvTer than byuN. But itwill be a cheesefest so who knows.
Everyone saying maru's having a bad year, but if he wins on Wednesday he goes up to 5 in the wcs ranking. Pretty much guarantees him a blizzcon seed if he at least enters any remaining tournaments.
If maru ends up winning the GSL I will be so happy especially if its a TvP Finals. I know people would probably rather see a TvZ finals but we got Solar vs INnoVation for that on friday

It wouldn't 'pretty much guarantee' him anything. The top 8 are so close together by points, if he went out in the Ro32 in the next GSL he probably wouldn't stay top 8. Without even considering that there's the danger of a player who is relatively low in the WCS rankings winning GSL, getting a direct Blizzcon seed and dumping someone else out of the top 8.
It's not a bad year so far (for individual leagues you can already say 2016 was worse than this year) but it's not like he's delivering any standout performances either. People expect Maru to do better than top 8 eventually.

Nahh it does, if maru wins he goes up to 4000 wcs points which puts him at 5th. If he even tries the remaining gsl/iem/super cup he'll finish with a minimum of 4500-5000 points.
I don't see 5000 points not making top 8. I know technically its possible but very unlikely.
Compare the WCS standings from now, halfway through the WCS year, to the standings at Blizzcon last year. There's a ton more WCS points this year, 3 people are already over 5000 points, soO is close to 5000 points (if he beats Rogue he's at 5150).
Unless from now on only people ahead of Maru in the standings get top 4s in tournaments, 5000 this year really isn't anywhere near save.
It seems to me like Maru is having a lot more fun and experimenting a lot more this year than in 2016. He has a lot more builds prepared, you cant really analyze his playstyle that well anymore. I feel like his gameplay is a lot less fancy and micro heavy, bit less aggressive but it seems more mature and its working out quite well... Even his TvP improved a lot. Yes he did that Reaper bullshit in the RO16 but he was just trying it out and once he finally saw it does not work anymore he immediately switched his play style and produced 2 solid builds/games to crush Dark. Especially game 3 was amazing from Maru, he never let Dark establish a good enough economy and slowly killed him. Hope he manages to produce a better TvT than last time against Ryung and goes to the Final !
I guess, I'd estimate that most players with 2-3000 points wont be going up more than 2000ish by the end of the year. If Maru wins on Wednesday he'll have 4000 + gsl s3 seed. I can't see a scenario he doesn't make top 8 unless he drops out of the remaining iem, super cup etc.
Edit: yh maru is looking better than last year. His 5/7 rax reaper was a bit questionable but he still crushed dark in the long game. Which is something byun and ty have yet yo achieve. If him and byun play normal games he is much better. Not that that will happen
