It really isn't the first time I've seen matches delayed/defloss because of conflicting schedules, so it's not only Fnatic. I wouldn't be surprised if this only happened because of yesterday's drama, and Fnatic wanted to prove a point. wow, that's actually blog worthy if it's true. It's not impossible that organizers are just getting more strict. But it would definatelly not be the first time I saw a match delayed 10-15mins or even more because a team had to finish a match, specially not so important online qualifiers.

The best part is Starladder wont start for another 10-15 minutes anyway

Still has to be accepted by the admin.
But let's speak honestly here. Empire not doing this is against their best interest : continue playing with other good teams in tournament to provide entartainment and keep some form of power in their hands so that tournaments don't enforce rules the teams can't refuse because they need the money.

Yap the whole shabang incoming. Well, reddit drama disregarding, the tournament scene is really oversaturated at the moment. Way too many organizations thought that they can make some money on a quickly growing Dota2 scene and all went into it without properly discussing things and coordinating it with each other. This situation is bad for everyone involved: players, tournament organizers and viewers.

well, tourney organizers have the right to enforce their own rules and teams have to suck it up whether they like it or not. i don't like defwins and forfeits either and i personally think a 15 min wait is common courtesy if the team that's late has a legit reason for not being on time (like still playing another official match), especially since one can't really know how long a game's gonna take. that said, it still comes down to whoever makes the schedule for the team to take precautions against this stuff. like scheduling a bo1 2 hours after you start a bo2 is pretty questionable and it kinda assumes that starladder in this case will give you that 15-20 min leeway you need. however, they don't really have to give you shit and if they actually don't, at the end of the day you're the one that's at fault. the "we're playing too many tourneys" excuse isn't really acceptable, don't sign up for all of them if you're not sure you can play.

The part I love the most is that people think this is a problem because of the growth of Dota even though this was a bigger problem 2 years ago.
You know the difference between now and 2 years ago? Teams don't play in every tournament. Organizers do actually think about scheduling. Everything isn't a bo3.
It's quite frankly fine right now. Considering how many teams play this many matches it is amazing this doesn't happen more often. Some teams need to be stricter about what tournaments they play in and how much time they give themselves in between them. But in terms of the 'scene', it's perfectly fine, this amount of matches is logistically possible as evident by the 95% of days there aren't any issues.

I checked liquipedia and I'm pretty sure it doesn't cost empire anything to forfeit whereas fnatic are kinda borderline in terms of their top-4 status.

Well it's also JDL, the tournament is for chicken scraps relative to everything else going on.

Lets be real, JDL would be a relatively small tournament even 2 years ago. I mean you have to play like 18 matches and then playoffs for a first prize of around $1500?
And this is what replaced the defense?
|
no, JDL was supposed to be a T2 touney for T2 teams with community casters to get some exposure but it just so happens C9, Empire, and Fnatic joined cause those guys join everything like big point battle, eizo cups, and all the small random EU cups. And suddenly Cap/Tobi went "oh shit those are good games let's cast those"
|
And so maybe the problem isn't too many tournaments. Maybe it's teams being too aggressive about joining every single one they can.
|
C9 basically said they joined the EU one to practice vs EU teams in a tournament setting lol. I'd assume the others would be similar. Na'Vi and Alliance didn't feel the need for that.

JD lists it as 2:0 for Empire still, am I missing something?
