Went to a concert today. Tilburg was the stage, Turisas, Annihilator and Iced Earth were the bands. Starting time: 8PM.
Left my house at 6:20PM to catch the train at 6:30 which would get me in tilburg 45 minutes before the start of the concert. At the arrival in the 013 (stage name), I found out that the starting time was not 8PM but a bit earlier instead, as Turisas had already started.
Turisas is a folk metal band, and can be compared to Korpiklaani and Finntroll and the like. They put on a good show in old fashioned Viking clothing. I only got to see about half an hour of them, but they exceeded above my expectation, mostly with songs about beer.
Next band in the list was Annihilator (Thrash metal band). I didn't expect too much from them as I didn't really like their stuff on the albums much. However, live they were fucking amazing. Definitely rose above my expectations and they were probably the highlight of the evening for me, especially the song "Phantasmagoria" (huge mosh pit ftw) which is a true thrasher.
-Interlude- Some annoying guy kept fiddling with my hair despite me not knowing them, so I had to move places. I still don't understand his reasoning, probably to impress the girls he went to the concert with.
Last was the main liner; Iced Earth. I had high expectations for this band and the song Violate was the sole reason for me visiting Tilburg. To me, they dissapointed with their new singer, Tim Owens. This guy was brought in Judas Priest from a coverband a number of years back, and joined Iced Earth in 2003. To me, he sounded more like Symphony X's singer, which fits with Symphony X. Not with Iced Earth.
Violate fortunately is a song mostly dominated by the instruments, and it was still awesome. Stormrider was another highlight of the evening, with Jon Schaffer doing the singing instead of Tim Owens, and I would much prefer if he became the main singer for the band. All in all, they still put in a solid performance.
As I went home, I found out the train was 15 minutes late, which was a problem as I had to switch trains on the way home. Luckily, I still made it. Almost got involved in a brawl between a metaler and some guys that came back from going out, but luckily nothing happened.
Sorry, no pictures yet. Might find some later, so keep checking!
