P.S.: I don't believe the scene is declining like somebody said, there is simply a generational change. It woud have been amazing seeing the old stars shine once again (and some of them are already, looking forward to JD winning a championship), however the old legends are losing their drive and it's time for new tyrants and new gods to rule. People like Life who is only 16 (despite his recent results) or Maru are going to be the next big thing. You cannot expect Flash to stay arounf forever...

I love how this turns into a "omg lets qq about star 2" thread. If you want to be a pro gamer right now choosing lol is by far the best option, given how easy it is to get to a certain level and how competition is mainly regional, on top of that being in LCS pays REALLY well, while not being in it sucks some what hard. Compare that to the chances of a foreign terran ever making that kind of money and you know what one would choose if he didn't care about the game.

I switched to BW and am having a blast even though I comparatively suck (nothing prepares you for Terran macro in BW coming from SC2, ahaha). I imagine that LoL feels the same in a different way. Sure it is not mechanically demanding (which is what I love and am looking for), but it sure must have a fuckton of strategic/teamplay depth which is probably very rewarding to him and other SC2 players who switched. There has to be this feeling that no matter how good you get, there is always still more which you can work on (whether mechanically or strategically). The ceiling needs to feel limitless! I imagine LoL does as well as Bw, just in a different way. Roll on Beasty! I don't know if I'll tune in as I did before since I personally don't hold much interest in LoL, but I'll sure tune in every once in awhile just to see your kickass character. That's one of the biggest issues with SC2 - the maps are just too big for the current economic model to work. With the current economic model, getting a third needs to be a big, big thing. The game needs to be smaller in scale so engagements are played at sub-200 pop, and so that a third is a stretch and hard to defend. Without that, the cycle of expand+meatgrinder > turtle > harassment > expand+meatgrinder stops working, and strategy boils down to turtle into deathball or kill the opponent before he can do that. The game also has way too many units designed like MOBA characters. Yoink is fine on Blitzcrank, but Vipers grabbing stuff, lamefields and such just don't belong in this game if you want positioning to matter. You don't need technical difficulty for that (though it is rewarding for many people). Just sane game design. Sane game design is unfortunately what SC2 lacks. Just contrast with Riot putting a guy on spreadsheets to figure out where money comes from in the game and adjusting things based on that and what kind of gameplay they want to encourage. It's a world of difference, even when MOBA balance is (IMHO) easier in some ways. They're actually willing to touch a good number of systematic issues. Still wish they fixed the ridiculously OP defense in LoL though. It's absurd when one team completely murders another by the 15 minute mark and it takes something like 7 minutes to actually win the game. Because even with a totally unloseable lead, base > team. Make a great attack, wow, got an inhibitor. Next one, same thing. Ok, we grabbed Baron. Maybe, just maybe, we might be allowed to go for the jugular now. It's absurd.

I understand that it is very possible to lose passion for SCII atm. I hope times get better and more people start loving the game again. Best of luck in LoL and hopefully you`ll can achieve what you are aiming for.

You need to micro and macro at the same time.

And when it was declining China's WC3 was emerging. was very promising but it died anyway. SC2 is definitely shrinking, though I hope it won't become as small as Heroes of Newerth.

I can't believe Blizzard are too dumb to see those stuff. How old are you Coffee Zombie? Just curious. I'd guess over 20, but if you turn out 16 or something, it speaks a lot about who's leading Blizzard...

The Dota scene is less closed off and easier to break into at this point, there's less competition/saturation for stream views, and surely if you were playing professionally on a game as mechanically demanding as Starcraft you'd want to play the harder game.

I'd guess over 20, but if you turn out 16 or something, it speaks a lot about who's leading Blizzard... I'm really 123 I think Blizzard's own arrogance and certain lack of seriousness speak more about them than how many birthday cakes I've eaten By lack of seriousness I mean an attitude where they bite off way more than they seem to be able to chew. Multiplayer unit design and singleplayer unit design are totally different beasts. One needs to simply be fun and cool, the other needs to be far more dynamic and pay way more attention to balance in multiple ways. Likewise MOBA heroes are far more self-contained than SC2 units ever need to be. But Blizzard doesn't get any of this. They make cool stuff and think it's enough. Similar to D3, where they went and for some retarded reason put real money in. When you do that, the pressure of having your loot drops right is enormously much higher than without. Yet they kinda hacked it together. Sense, it makes none. Let alone when the Auction Houses screw over what is the core of Diablo - the game's job is literally to be a monster-pinata full of phat loot. Why play when you can buy? It's no wonder the game is not doing well - it's just not thought out. The folks seem to believe they're brilliant when there are actually rules by which things like design and markets work. Back to SC2, an economy-oriented RTS like Starcraft needs things that move and shoot stuff. Nothing more. Positioning and economy are endless fonts of depth, and those basic mechanics allow for near infinite creative applications from harassment to space control to scouting to who knows what else, unlike shit like Entomb. It's the reason Banshees and Mutas and Lings and MMMM drop squads are incorporated both into armies and harassing strike teams. You can spice that up with some fancy magic. But just spice it up. SC2 is such an ability fest it's absurd. The game is designed according to "more clicks = more micro = tehskillz" and balanced by spreadsheet, not game flow. An unbalanced matchup that obeys sane rules and flows well is much preferable to the farces we have now. The company's idea of asymmetric balance is just... urkh. Yes, let's throw the old way of "factions can do stuff, but do it differently" to the bin. Asymmetric balance means factions are strong at predetermined times in the game. Hey, why are our matches very scripted with this and that engagement happening all the time and they start to look the same? Nah, we couldn't have screwed up. We're brilliant and our ideas are smart. Like using warpgates to throw all the foundations of an economy RTS out into the trash can. Right? Right?
