Going to pre-purchase it this afternoon, can't wait for release. For anyone out there who is on the fence on trying a paradox game, this is the time to try and this is the game to go for.

Want tech? Invest. Want Culture? Invest. Want Idea? Invest. Want trade? Send Merchant, receive Bonus. You have close, achieveable goals which anyone can get and fiddle around with for starters.

Key features (Monarch Points, Trade) are easy to understand but with deep possibilities, modifieres are visible most of the time and while there are still complex and random based things, you can just let them flow while learning. One of the big things I took away from my demo play was that the randomness has actually been severely limited, at least in the long term... The stuff that happens under siege is still random for example, but it's random in a fairly predictable way. Another huge deal is diplo-annexation. If I don't remember incorrectly, it used to be that you had to have a vassal with insanely good relations, then it was just a dicethrow every time you asked for diplo-annexation... the vast majority of the time they declined and you had to rebuild the relation and try again. Now, it's still "costly" since you lose a diplomat for many years, but it's at least guaranteed if you want it, which puts you in control of your strategy. Awesome improvement.

Love the trade remake, was terribly boring to manage merchants in EU3. Also love the auto diplomatic improve from diplomats. Looks like a lot of stuff were smoothed without (seemingly) lose the depth of EU3, I like that. Really the fact that they removed the system of "spending" agents and instead opted for a fix amount that perform a task until relocated, will just make the game a lot better for me. Too bad tomorrow I have to go to the hospital for an exam

Would really like to get a community going so we can have multilayer games. Would love to play multiplayer with some TL people. We had quite a few games going in EU3 a couple of years back, was fun ! Though knowing Paradox, MP will be bugged for a month...

I'd go with England myself, but really they're both quite similar being colonial powers that are right next to France and form geographical unions. I think my first game is going to be north German country like Brandenburg.

It was pretty impossible to expand as a HRE member into the HRE if you didn't have cores because the penalty was so harsh. You had to either claim throne expand or get lucky missions with cores.

Also, where did culture go? Edit: AI seems very problematic as well. In my current game, Spain has a 22 size stack stuck in Cornwall since the war vs England that happened ages ago while Austria is walking all over them. -_-

How does one best prepare for something like that? Is it possible to get a warning when a country that can kick your ass gets a CB on you, is it enough to try to improve relations, other ways to deter them? As for HRE, what's the best way to get people voting yes on your reformations? I never actually got to 50%, but I was very close and yet the majority of princes would have voted no. I know you can check why they would vote no, but I found it unclear how to effectively change their mind, one obviously doesn't have enough diplomats to keep improving relations with every darn prince in the HRE, and relations seem to have quite a minor impact on their voting.

You do get a warning when the CB is created, but France might be having a CB from the very start of the game because of Sundgau (that little piece of land just next to them). You can see it in their diplomacy options. You usually need to deal with the political situation proactively instead of reactively. With or without an immediate CB or war interest on you, France is always going to be your natural rival for the continental superpower, whereas for example England is not going to bother you in centuries to come. Getting in on the England/Portugal block will keep France in check. If they enter a war with either side, the other can just backstab them and they can't withstand the war on two fronts against two major powers.
