If you can put up with outdated graphics you will love this game so much. Arguably. There are more than a few people (including myself) that think other games (6, 4, 9) are much better. It's definitely a good game, just overrated by the people who started at the PSX age.

ive heared all kinds of people making arguments for evrypart of the series beeing the best. and almost all have good arguments.
i for example didnt like 9 much. didnt even finish it. 7 was my first one so it has a bonus anyways but overall from the mechanics, the world and characters its a great allrounder. some love 8 for its story, i like 5 for the job system or 10 for its deep endgame and storytelling.
after 12 i stopped getting em and i didnt even finish that cause too much mobhunt sidetracking made the game way way way too easy (i could kill story bosses in ~10-30 secs without even touching the controller thx to gambits). but i could discuss the strengths of evry other one for hours and make strong points for most.

Actually the PC version allows you to choose a 3rd party MIDI synthesizer for the music and you can definitely find one that will sound as good as, if not better than the PS version.
PC Version will also be enhanced thanks to your graphic card anti aliasing. There are also numerous mods to improve graphics a lot.

Figured it better to just bump this than make a new thread-
FF7 was released on steam today for $12 for anyone interested

Besides them messing with some of the music (to my great displeasure) it's the same exact game which is great. The "improved graphics" are just rounded edges, not actually 2013 graphics. If you're a fan of ff7 it's very worthwhile.

not sure why as a 'fan' of ff7 i should blindly throw money at square enix for the same game over and over again

Does it run at faster speed than the PS version ? My only complaint when I try to replay old PS games is that battle loading and battle presentations etc is sooooooooo slow :/
|
I believe it should since it is not about loading anything from a CD, which gets longer as the PSX gets old.
I wish they would release all the FF on PC Wait, i've heard of a thing called emulators...

Yeah it runs smoothly. Battles load instantly and such.
The issue with emulators is that...they're emulators. The sound can get fucked up, a lot of things can corrupt, it's for ease. I have no issue paying 10 dollars to never have to reconfigure an emulator for a game that I play multiple times a year.

Wow I remember this game being a lot better than it actually is...

As a huge fan of the 'real' FFs, i hate Square for a passion now so i will never give them any money in future (13 was my last straw).
Just gonna keep reminding myself that i have ps1 and pc version of ff7 laying somewhere in the house so i will not buy the game again, very tempted to just pay for it on psn >_>

Can you completely disable the cloud saving? I heard a lot of horror stories about it.

really? its way better than I remembered

For anyone that did buy the game and has noticed something weird about the sound, it's because they replaced a lot of them with low quality midi versions of the soundtracks. What you need to do is download the new ogg music file (I have a link that I can pm you since it is a torrent) and replace all the current songs with the one from the download. It's really easy and only takes a few minutes.

Yeah. The mechanics, plot and nobuo's music in this one really all hold up fantastically well when compared to any of the other titles. As does the pacing of the story and the general atmosphere. Nothing in the ff series can compete with its all round quality. And on a smaller note, the materia system is the coolest system.

I hope you've replaced the in game audio files. Because the ones that come with the game are horrendous compared to the original.

For graphics, a modern PC version should be better and there were issues with using some of the 'enhancements' on emulators (green lines, freezing etc.). Even without bothering with a 3rd party midi synthesizer, on a PC, you can directly replace the music files if you just want different themes (such as metal versions) if desired.
I'm not sure about the original PC version, but I know that on emulator, some sound effects just don't sound correct at all. Most of the music is fine, but some SFX just sound quirky, like the (updated) emulator's sound plugin (have tried multiple) can't render some sounds correctly.
I still love FF7! ♥ It's a real shame there is a popular mentality (and some people just genuinely don't like it as much, I know) to pick on it for being the most popular or talked about. There are also "Sephi-haters" (usually Kekfa-fanciers), who try to claim that Kefka "wanting to just destroy everything" is more evil than Sephiroth wanting to use a meteor to nearly kill a planet and suck up all of the life force from the dead/destroyed plants/minerals/animals in order to be selfishly reborn as a god to rule over all. Pfft. People have odd perspectives. Maybe they're just apathetic types who like the idea of pointless destruction more than destruction for evil gains.

Waiting for FFVIII. My disc 1 from the original PC version is missing and it won't install on Win7
