Okay, so what's with people who wanted to participate not participating? Seems a bit irresponsible of them. I don't know about everyone else in CTL, but I would like to eventually make money playing video games, and I see the CTL as one of the first steps towards creating something along the lines of small, lesser-known teams where people can begin learning in a truly competitive environment, kind of like Little League. The next step after that would be getting picked up by a middling-skill league, from which talent scouts would pull people for training at the pro level. I certainly don't think the whole community is behind it, or even sees it the way I do, but hell, we've all got to start somewhere.
CTL is the thing that got me hitting that match button more than once or twice a day, and my skills have improved markedly in just a couple weeks. I played my first bronze opponent in a week yesterday, other than that, it's been all silvers and golds, with a largely 80-90% winrate in my favor.
Come on, guys! If you're in the CTL, please be responsible and keep in touch with your team. If you have to step out, at least post on the thread or email someone so we don't all have to suffer.
Admins, we also need a contigency rule. What if one of the no-contact players had a massive emergency, like they got hit by a car or a family member died? We need a "worst case scenario" rule. I propose that, in the event something truly major happens and can be verified in some way (link to a news article?) a rematch should be allowed as long as it happens in the same season.
For example, let's say I'm scheduled to play a match next week, but a truck runs over me. I contact Ksquared or email howLiN or Dasende or post here on the thread. As long as I get to a computer before the season ends, I'm allowed to play a make up match for the game I missed because my leg was in traction.
That's just a suggestion.

I'm not going to get into a yelling match about this here, but I will say I really hope the scheduled matches (2 silvers and ace) happen tonight...I spoke briefly with ErrantMind last night before he jumped off and I was in a game but hopefully my match at least happens.
GLH to all captains

I agree completely that CTL is a wonderful addition to the community and that like you, I have been much more engaged in SC2 since it started.
As for the "worst case scenario" rule, I think if something like that happens you have more to worry about than a forfeit in one CTL match. It's pretty unlikely that anything that could be cited in a news article is going to happen to someone here. Don't get me wrong, I like planning for possible problems but it just makes sense to focus on the current problem of people being irresponsible and not participating, as you stated at the beginning. That seems like a much bigger issue at the moment.

by design or by accident, no contact info for payback is available in game. that makes it incredibly hard to contact payback if they are your opponent. in ctl chat was the first time i spoke with sxe at all. since i couldn't contact him, and he didn't contact me, who's at fault if we never played our match?
fact is i agreed to a game tonight through my captain. if i hadn't spoken to sxe in ctl chat, i wouldn't be certain there even was a match. i support the cry of foul if a scheduled game is missed by 1 player while the other sits waiting, but did skorb confirm that match with leave beforehand?
i'm not trying to be inflammatory, the ctl is great and will only get better if we all work at it. we have to recognize the problems and deal with them logically. there is likely a better way to do things, since this the first season a lot will be trial and error.

edit: character codes in OP and for some reason I never noticed them.. great

Talked to our captain and codes will be added to the front page. Presumably when the thread creator is available.

I'm aware of the fact that for some reason our codes arent in the OP...which is weird because they were all given to the admins at the start of the comp. I told my guys to contact their guys as we DO have access to their character codes, skorb I know at the very least messaged leave around 8pm when his match was at 830pm and never got a response up until he logged off around 10pm. When scheduling the games with Glint we said let's do bronze at 8 and gold at 830 Thursday and the rest Friday. At that point both parties said agreed and we went on our way, so as far as I saw it, we were game on because ntohing was said to the contrary. We showed as expected

also, happy birthday to King's Men captain Kiastu!!

I can't say too much because I'm on my phone but a lot of the problems that are being raised can be easily solved by having a team's replacement player playing in place of the original player on the submitted lineup. Let me reiterate that captains have total liberty to change their lineup throughout the week if there are players that are revealed to not be able to play their original appointed match, and that scenario is the primary reason why teams have 8 players for 5 sets each week. Backup players are a failsafe system in case a player can't play that week, I think teams haven't totally understood that. If we thought that every lineup was to happen without margin of error then we would have just assign 5 players to each team. Teams, you have the liberty to use your backup players anytime: use them if you need to.
As for Team PAYBACK's character codes, they were removed by request of the team. I can add them to the OP as soon as I have access to a computer (which should happen in the next couple of hours) if Team PAYBACK confirms that their character codes can be re-added.
|
they were requested off? weird. anyways, ya go ahead and add them back sorry for the confusion there
thanks to the admins for being good dudes

Team PAYBACK's character codes were added to the OP.
Have fun!

Wow, I just watched some VODs from yesterday's cast, great job Hazardous! It seems like you guys are having a lot of fun! Loved it!

This? .....Ok, so lets get this on even grounds. Considering that the codes were taken off by request thus making it hard for my players to contact their opponents you cannot complain because they were unreachable. Yes, Its not technically in the rules that you have to have them up. Its also only stated in the rules that games have to be done by sunday 12pm pst, so if a game is not completed make sure there is at least someone ready to go sunday night by defult as a failsafe, such as a backup player. Also it doesnt matter if you told you players to contact ours sxe, its a 2 way street and we had to be able to contact yours instead of mine waiting around for yours to pm or whatever. As far as I know he had to work late and he got on as soon as he got home. He could of tried text one of us to tell someone that they have to reschedule but for some profound and unexplained reason your codes were requested off, so fire and all, chill the hell out. There is no reason for the hostility in this thread.
Loki, I completly agree with you. Thus why we have an entire week to play a game. Things happen and none of us are salaried pro's that live starcraft and are available all the time.
Either we are going to play by the rules and be flexible given we have a week to figure out our games and deal with real life like work, wives, and school ect. Or we can all be hardasses and if my opponent is not on and ready at 11:00pm tonight and its 11:01pm then I demand an immidate forfeit because real life just fucking happens. I'd rather have fun with this team league that howLin and others selflessly put together and make friends than argue and act like an asshole. If you have any rebuttles feel free to PM me.
And thank you for putting them back up. Good luck and have fun in the rest of your games guys.
Ps. Happy birthday bro.

Killer Pikachus, please PM me. It looks like I'm going to be playing your bronze player, and I don't have any of you buddied on TL. I need to know who I'm playing and the most reliable method of contacting him/her. Here is my availability (sorry for the short notice, I just got the PM from my team captain):
Today (Friday, 4/27/12): Not available (date night with gf). Tomorrow (Saturday, 4/28/12): Available morning to noon. Already have plans with friends and family for evening. If my opponent is up for playing after midnight, PM me, and I will try to make it. Sunday (4/29/12): Available most of the day. PM me.
I am Loki.1649 on Team Evolution. PM me on here or poke me in SC2 (PM is more reliable, I get an email alert on my phone). Any questions, please PM me.

GlintFox, the character codes were removed under the assumption that it would be Team PAYBACK the ones who would contact their opponents, since their opponents wouldn't have any way of contacting Team PAYBACK's players. Obviously that's something that can go wrong, and I think Team PAYBACK realized that by asking to put the character codes again in the OP.
Also, you do have a point on team's flexibility. The overarching rule that we've been following and that teams should too is this: CTL is a league which sole purpose to exist is for players to have fun. This is not about winning, it's about having fun. It's also because this is about having fun that all 5 sets are to be played each match, if this was about winning we would just make it a bo5. So teams need to have some flexibility about schedules, but at the same time they need to have some kind of commitment to the agreed schedules, otherwise the league just isn't gonna happen. We were hoping that we didn't need to make any rules regarding players' scheduling or punishments for not showing up to said scheduling, because we know that this is an amateur league. If you guys think it's best to have something in the likes of "if player is late more than X minutes/hours, it's a walkover" we can do it, but personally I think that would put too much emphasis on winning and discarding the most important thing in this league: that players get to play.
Bottom line is, players just need to guide themselves by common sense regarding match scheduling. Players just need to commit to the date and time they've agreed on, and if someone doesn't show up it's not that huge of a problem, you'll just reschedule for another time. The important thing is to get the match played, not to know who won.

I agree.
I think its ludicrous that you just have to assume Team A. will hold all the contact info for the match sets and not have it both ways as all the other teams do and expect things to work out favourably. If all info was held by one team then full responsibility would be on Team A than Team B regardless of the outcome. I asked for char codes twice and got nothing and my team mates have been asking for them since Monday and I still had nothing to show. Errant also brought it up a few pages back and was ignored. I'm not blaming you, I just think its outragous that someone will flip out because of communication problems on said matches when there is no way to tell anyone that you are running late or need to reschedule. If this were the other way around I'm sure the same convo would happen but backwards, and they (codes) shouldn't of been removed in the first place. If so, then why are my teams codes on? Or anyone elses? An advantage? Its obvious and common sense that this would of caused problems. I thank you for fixing it. I personally think we should all just try to schedule via capts then have each player and each oppenent msg each other for times and days that work out and get to know each other a little. This worked well with us vs BM because its simple and doesnt have any gimmicky "Don't contact us, we'll contact you." things. Plus it was realized after someone called out, but not before the "well he wasnt on, waited around blah blah" whinning happened. I talked to my other players and they said that leave told them he would be away until 10 pm cst and let his partner know. Too bad no one could get ahold of the other team and I, myself cannot be on at all times because like many I have a job. In short, we take no responsiblity due to lack of contact info to inform and are willing to be flexible as everyone else is. Like you and I already said, its about fun and I'm having a grand time outside of this. All of us are seeming to. I vote for common sense as you proposed. Thanks again, HowLin for a quick response.

Agreed 100% with everything that you said, howLiN.
And Glint, I have no problem with you personally. The hostility came from you coming into this thread and criticizing our efforts to get a new player when admins regularly check it and your own player didn't even show up for his match. I don't think anyone wants to fight as we're all here to have fun. Just let us take care of our own business. I'm not upset and I hope you aren't either.
And for the record, ErrantMind was the first person to bring up the issue of character codes as we had no problem with scheduling the previous week (we were actually the first team to complete our matches along with The King's Men). As everyone can see above, I talked to SXE (our team captain) and it was taken care of within an hour of the issue being raised.

I didn't mean to come off criticizing any effort. Only stating what I thought I knew and asked a question. As far as I knew I thought you had to put in for a league and one would be assiagned. It may of came off a different way but I was trying to be helpful information-wise rather than "the fuck you doin son!?". I recently talked to dasende about the very subject briefly and thought I'd pass the info on.
And for the record, ErrantMind brought up the issue of character codes on Monday. Go back and look. It was in a friendly manner and blown off. Your players are you business, yes. But scheduling and whatnot are my business and this is why I've been posting.

I think we're on the same page now. Our codes are up and since Leave is available on Sunday, I will make sure I'm free to play him if Skorbnut can't find a time that works.
I didn't see the post from Errant on Monday or I'd have said something then. I'm not our captain, just here trying to help take care of problems.
GL and HF all.
Edit- It's easy to misunderstand tone in print. No harm, no foul about us searching for a new player.

Thank you. To be fair, I brought it up to your capt, and hes the one who responded to errants post on monday. I have no grudges, I just want to make sure the damn matches are played lol! If leave falls in a damn well or something i'll make sure mightycow or someone is on to play you for sure. I will also make sure you're added and you and him can figure out an exact time. Fair?
edit : err, I mean Skorbnu, but i'll make sure youre kept in the loop
