I always felt like we could use a thread for general discussion about the biggest event in the SC2 Esport universe. The LR threads are usualy focused on live reports and the games currently being played, but in this thread you can talk about general topics like Race Ratio, Maps and make your calls on how the foreigner hope Naniwa is gonna do.
What do you think about the Casters? do you like Wolf/Khaldor, and is Tasteosis living up to their reputation as the best and most sophisticated SC2 Caster Duo in the world?
So, Now that we have gotten to the round of 8, and the Brackets are official, lets take a look at them and make our calls:
Group 1: NaNiwa vs Mvp
Group 2: PartinG vs Oz
Winners of group 1 and 2 play each others in R4
Group 3: SuperNoVa vs HerO
Group 4: TaeJa vs Squirtle
Winners of group 3 and 4 play each others in R4
STORYLINES:
Coming into the round of 8, the players have not only displayed fearsome, amazing play, but also a personal storyline. its not just the money and prestige that causes these players to dedicate their heart and soul into practicing for their next round, everyone wants to prove themselves, and many of them have taken different roads to get here and each of them have different motives behind their strife for victory. Some of them are veterans and have already won one or several titles, other players are rising stars, eager to prove that their name should be on the list of the current best players in the world. Before each round, i will summarize the storyline for both players and then write a few closing words when its over before moving on to the next round.
Round 1: The Foreigner Hope VS The Scarred Champion.
Naniwa: The foreigner Hope. Johan has sacrifised alot to get where he is today, at a young age he was forced to leave his home because his parents did not agree with his career choice. Since then he has been living in various practice houses, with his mind and heart set on one goal: to become the best player in the world. He shares this dream with a huge part of the foreigner spectator scene, who have been dreaming about a foreign victory in the GSL since Jinros legendary runs to the R4. Now, Naniwa is closer than ever to reach his goal, but will he prevail? by making it to the round of 8, he has secured a seed in the next season of Code S for another shot, but in his next round of this tournament he is going to be facing none other than IM.Mvp.
Mvp is a player who doesnt need an introduction. With three GSL wins in his bag, he is a legendary terran who has consistently performed well since his arrival on the scene with countless of victories all over the world. But this consistency has come with a price, all the practice has worn out his wrists and it looks like Mvp suffers from one of the worst cases of carpal tunnel syndrome in the history of e-sports. Despite this, the Terran from team Incredible Miracle has managed to get to the round of 8, and this painful handicap actually provides Mvp with the unique opportunity to prove to the world that he is so far above everyone else that he can actually win a GSL despite having such a huge handicap, and also become the first player to reach 4 GSL wins.
No balance whine, no player bashing. If you are gonna get into Race vs Race discussions, be specific and talk about the maps and strategies that are currently influencing the meta game. I encourage meta-game discussions but keep it civil, if you think a certain map favors a certain race, you need to back it up with arguments and valid explanations, to maintain a mature discussion. No "OP 1A WIN IMBA" talk.
