for instance, getting through snow veil sanctum at ~lvl 38 was incredibly hard, pretty much every mob you encounter has multiple partners and they were all drough overlords capable of killing me with 3 hard blows, I kind of cheated to get through there anyway using the stone to ressurect the surrounding dead corpses, which meant that at any point I had 10 droughs following me(had to use 'wait' a couple of times to recharge the power)

Pretty much breaks the game and makes it really boring because I can't die anymore and I just 1-2 shot everything. Fortify health potions sell for 1500 gold each which makes it pointless to loot anything other then alchemy reagents. I'm probably just going to wait for some good mods to come out before I do another playthough. I had more fun on my first playthough with a sneak backstab\archer build, the thieves guild and dark brotherhood quest lines were well done.

Sharpshooter/Sniper Main focus : Archery & Stealth Race : Wood Elf / Khajit / Argonian Statistics : 0/3/1 (magicka/health/stamina) Secondary focus : Light Armor & Lockpicking Essential Perks : - Eagle Eye - Steady Hand - Overdraw - Deadly Aim - Light Foot Weapons : Your main should be something like an Elven/Glass Bow with dual elemental enchantments - Fire & Ice seems perfect. If you get good at enchanting, you can squeeze out around 320 damage from a shot, without any of the bonuses from the stealth perks. Keep your back up as either dual daggers (Orichish) or a combo of sword and shield (Elven/Glass). Good enchants for the dual daggers is "life steal" (health absorb) on both and one elemental for each - left hand Ice, right hand Fire. Shield is good with health boost and one-handed skill buff or health boost plus magic resistance. The sword should be enchanted with life steal and fire. Armor : Light ! That's the key. Either Elven or Glass would be great for you. If you manage to scrap up enough blacksmithing (highly doubtful), you can try sneak in a set of Light Dragonscale Armor. Good enchants are Archery for the helm, Health + Stamina regen for the torso, Archery + Lockpicking for the gauntlets and Sneak + Muffle for the boots. Follower : Vorstag is perfect. Faendal is actually pretty good as well. Stone : The Thief. Simple as that. You pick it up early and stick with it thru out. Gameplay General Tips : When exploring, keep sneaking. You'll often catch your pray before they can see you and the bow + sneak will result in one-shot-one-kill quite often. The only problem I have is when I'm with the dual daggers. I pretty much need to access my inventory every time my one-shot-one-kill move fails, because I have to equip my daggers properly. Nothing major to worry thou. You'll have enough health pool to take damage by dragons and giants once you reach level 20 and above. Besides, your light armor should offer decent protection by default. I've often found myself in situations facing multiple enemies at once, usually killing 2 or 3 just with the bow and arrows from distance and from there on, I massacre the rest pretty easly with the dual dagger power strikes (hold down mouse left and right buttons at the same time). Just wanted to throw in my own experience that if your goal is to be a sniper, then you want to up the sneak to at least 60+. The idea is that enemies would not know of your whereabouts even if your first arrow didn't one shot kill. Assuming that you've maxxed out on the archery perks (minus Bullseye), and have enough sneak perks (Sneak, Deadly Aim, Muffled Movement), you would be dealing x3 (plus crit hits occrasionally) on every arrow you shoot simply because you would remain sneaked the whole battle. You can use Aura Whisper shout ability with this combination. With this, you can find out where your enemies are beforehand (the shout will not alert enemies either). Currently, my archery is at 85 and sneak at 81, and it's getting really ridiculous. Every battle is a joke. The bosses are jokes (I simply sneak attack from distance 4-5 times in a row and they're dead - takes me about 4-5 seconds). And I'm just using an upgraded (Legendary) ebony bow with zero enchant (my blacksmith is at 98).

I am asking because I have this amulet that increases my speech skill by +15 points. However, it will not let me unlock any perks within the skill tree because my base (real) level for that skill is too low, even though with the 15+ speech I should be able to unlock all of them. So now I am left wondering what are the benefits of raising each skill to 100 if you aren't even going to get the perks for em. Thanks! (I know it helps with leveling but that is not the kind of benefit I am wondering about)

Then I read it. Very useful thread, the IGN Skill Builder was especially awesome (Would like to point out that if you wanna speed level Conjuration, you can actually just play around like normal, no farming required, because for whatever reason, you level up like once everytime you enter combat with dual wielded bound weapons)

(I know it helps with leveling but that is not the kind of benefit I am wondering about) I believe there is some scaling benefit with skill points in various skills. Crafting skills improve in potency. Fighting skills improve damage. Magic skills reduce magicka cost. Also, the way levelling works is that every time you level up a skill, you get that level worth of experience points towards your overall level. So if you get level 50 archery, you get 50 exp. When you get level 51 archery, you get +51 exp. This is where the idea of a soft cap comes in. If you have a main bunch of skills that you use the most, they will gain you the most exp as you level. Once you hit 100 in your main skills, the only way to continuing gaining levels is from using your off-skills. If you're a 1 hander you train your 2 hand skill, if you use light armour you train your heavy armour, etc. Once you max out all skills at 100 you'll be at level 81 which is the hard cap.

I guess it takes time to develop decent mods but at this point I don't really see the advantage for casual players

Level 17 right now. Dual Wielding Skyforge Steel Swords. Have one-handed at ~60+ and perks in the right handed side of the one-handed branch + sword crit perk. Also have perks in the middle branch of Enchanting and the heavy armor branch of Black-smithing. Things I'm wondering: 1.) Do I need Arcane Black-smithing? 2.) I'm obviously going to add perks into Heavy-Armor. Do I basically have to max everything? Do I even need to if my crafted armor is good enough to reach the armor cap? 3.) What enchantments? +One-handed damage is a given but what else? Should I go for elemental damage or drains on my weapons? I'm thinking for my Bow, maybe lightning? I hate having to chase down mages and it would be nice if I could drain all their MP from a distance. 4.) How should by attributes be allocated? I've added to nothing but health up to this point and have been relying on temporarily enchanted / bought gear with + stamina boosts to boost stamina. What type of ratio should I be looking at? 5.) If I want to max damage, do I need to get perks on Alchemy? If so, which?

Sneaky Illusionist Style: Use a combination of stealth and illusion to cause complete chaos in a populated area without being detected. When done properly, you will always be the last thing the enemy will attack. And to back that up, you can use summons to further the chaos and provide a meat shield. Another 'benefit' of this build is that bosses and high level enemies are absolutely terrifying and a very good challenge. Race Suggested: High Elf (Altmer) makes this so much easier for the first few levels, where you'll probably need to use destruction to survive anyway. Stat Allocation: Ugh, I'm not sure. 4/1/0? I got enough magicka to be able to use a couple of dual-casted frenzies, an atronach and have some leftover. After that, pump Health until magicka is a problem again. Armour: None. Just robes, a hood/circlet, gloves and boots. Primary Skills: Illusion, Sneak, Conjuration
Optional Skills:
Other Tips:
[*]If you go with the bound bow + archery for your choice of weapon, you'll have to learn to shoot between the legs and arms of a frost atronach without hitting it. A lot of times it's going to be blocking your enemies from you, and the last thing you want to do is banish it by accident.

This class specializes in using the souls of the living. It is a WARRIOR, but with a heavy magical support to enhance his abilities in combat. It is a very fun character to roleplay, since you will be harvesting souls through the game in order to become more powerful, and once you reach a certain point, you can use those souls to unleash all your power. Main focus : 1 Hand weapons, Conjuration & Enchanting Race : Nord, because this is Skyrim, right? Statistics : 1/2/1 (magicka/health/stamina). Until you reach 200 magicka & stamina, then everything goes to health. Secondary focus : Block, Restoration & Smithing "Harvesting souls" gameplay (levels 1-30 more or less): Always use soulbound weapons to inflict damage in combat, and get support from an atronarch. In your other hand you may use either another soulbound sword, a shield or a restoration spell depending on the situation. You need to carry tons of soulgems, buy them always empty since your weapons will allow you quick and easy soul harvesting. Invest your money to level up smithing a little, but keep yourself from exploiting the smithing/enchanting/alchemy circle. Your goal is to max out conjuration and enchanting. Enchant EVERYTHING. Craft complete enchanted sets for all your followers. Just by having atronarch+soulweapons ready conjuration goes up fast, and since swords is your way of dealing damage it will go up fast too. You need to care only for enchanting. "Unleashing the power" gameplay (level 30+): There will be a moment where you have 90+ conjuration, 90+ enchanting, and a nice amount of smithing, so the weapons you craft + upgrade + enchant will be better than the souldbounded ones. Congratulations, that is the moment your character has been harvesting souls for. Put a couple points into dual wielding, put the final point to dual enchants asap and the final point into 2 atronarchs at the same time asap. The souls start to burn, so make use of them. Equip 2 weapons of choice with the flame weapons enchant and life absorb, and before hacking everything away remember to shout fire at them, so they are already in fire and your swords gain extra damage. Have always as support 2 flame atronarchs. To hell with the other atronarchs or the dremora lords! How to deal with mages: Soulbound sword + ward to get close. At melée range, souldbound sword + healing spell. How to deal with heavy 2h melée warriors: You will get crushed if you are not careful. Very important to use the shield and bash when they attempt a power attack. Don't be afraid to back up if you must to heal, since you will have an atronarch to distract them. How to deal with dragons: You lack ranged power, so it is very important to use ranged atronarchs. However, your soulbound bow will do a lot of damage, even if your archery skill is very low, so it will be more than enough to make it land. After it lands, just sword&shield (bash to interrupt breaths). Follower : A ranged one will do wonders. Aela, Faendir, etc. Shouts: While harvesting souls, you will want to use them as a defensive move. Use the slow time shout to heal, or the freezing one to CC. You also have the Nord racial power as a pannic button, do not forget to use it since it is a lifesaver. When you go crazy, use the Fire Breath to increase damage output and just enjoy. Keep in mind that you wont be using Elemental Fury, as opposed to most dual wielders.

Im doing a similar build, playing on masters, that is based on conjuration / archery / sneak. The combination of conjured bow and frost atronach is super strong. You hardly need any gear and you dont need a follower. Im using robes only. Ive put points into archery / sneak to make my dps better. Also added some illusion to get silent casting. Im only lvl 30 yet and at this stage everything is supereasy. I wonder how the bound bow scales, though. Anyone know?

Is such a thread really necessary? This is no "you are so dumb"-kind of question, I mean it. Skyrim, like almost every other offline RPG, feels like a "do whatever the f** you want"-game. If you want a Nord that uses all kinds of magic, then do it. There's no reason not to and nobody will punish you for that. Does it really make a difference if you make "builds" or do "imba stuff" in Skyrim? o.O I play on the highest difficulty and have a dunmer that does onehand stuff, sneaks sometimes and uses all different kinds of magic all the time... And I have my challenges but also don't think it's impossible to do...

The goal for everyone isn't necessarily to just beat the game, I'm certain everyone can do that. But as you put it yourself this is a 'do whatever you want game' and I've found some idea's from this thread myself that have made me think "hmmm, might just try that next playthrough". It's true this thread isn't for everyone, but I think it definately has it's place for those who enjoy what it offers.

This evil character always uses the darkest magic tricks to get what he wants, with the less effort possible. You must take advantage of every selfish opportunity the game throws at you and use your undead minions to break havoc along with your frost magic. Main focus : Conjuration, Destruction, Alteration Race : Breton Statistics : 2/1/0 (magicka/health/stamina). Secondary focus : 1 hand weapons, Illusion, Restoration Gameplay: This character is the master of frost magic, manipulation and the most resilient mage class. Your goal is to endure them all. You will take their lifes one by one, little by little, without them being able to do anything. You will always have the best zombie you can find, and use frost magic in one or both hands, and use all the staffs you might find (Sanguine FTW for bosses midgame). Always have an alteration buff up, to soak a little damage from archers and such, but you should rely in a cowardly defensive stance: Let your minions and followers tank the damage. Perk allocation: In Conjuration, take only the zombie tree and discounts. In Destruction, you just need the frost tree and discounts. In Alteration take everything. That will leave you a lot of points wherever you like. By the time you are level 20, you should start spending several perks in the illusion tree. Lategame as a necromancer (level 30+): You will find that frost mage does not go up, but your enemies health still rises. You will have to change gameplay a little bit, and be more coward as the game progresses. Do not think of this as a failure of Bethesda's scaling system because that will break the character. Roleplay it as a progression of your character going deeper into the dark side, being weeker, meaner, more coward and selfish, and using filthier tricks to kill your opponents. (Runes, poisons applied, paralysis enchants in daggers, dremora lord summons for bosses) Also, the more you progress, the more you will use 1 handed weapon with a CC enchant on it, such as Fear, Paralyze, etc. How to deal with powerful mages: In the early game, you will outpower them so they are not a problem. Lategame they will overpower you, since they do more damage. However, since you are Breton and will have Alteration's Magic Resistance, their damage will be 55% less. Take a potion to increase resistance of their element or directly magic, and establish a diabolical duel of magic powers, where you will use electricity in both hands while screaming "Unlimited power........!!". How to deal with heavy 2h melée warriors: In every stage of the game you will need to create diversions. Use your minions for that, and drain the foe's stamina with frost maggic so the zombies have better survivability. Lategame, they will hit very hard and the draning wont be enough, so you will have to use other tricks such as illusion magic for crowds, traps, and the über usefull paralyzing enchants. How to deal with dragons: "Unlimited power.......!!!!!! Follower: A melée oriented follower is the best one. You want him to tank for you. Mercenaries you pay are just what you want, since you have no friends. Shouts: You will mostly use CC ones, such as the "Ice cubed!" one, or the AoE fear.
