Also hopefully items/equipment play more of a role because I found them to be completely useless really. And change summoning too(or make it stronger). Most useless thing ever

I'll probably play FFVI tomorrow, never got around to playing it and i bought it like 1-2 years ago. Same with FFXIII (Bought it but didn't play it for more than like 10-15 mins).

Yes, IX does. In all seriousness, it was a bad system that encouraged mindless grinding, rather than encourage playing through the parts of the game that are actually interesting. Grinding is dull, and the games RPG elements shouldn't feel like a chore.

The problem with their system is that unless you knew how the game was going to go already, you were eventually going to have to grind. I watched HCBaily let's play it and he didn't have to grind at all during the game for his abilities, but he test ran the game 3 times before recording anything so he had it all planned out so you wouldn't have to grind. A new player isn't going to know that and is going to spend a large portion of the middle of the game grinding out abilities =/.

Exactly, not to mention a large number of abilities in the game are near useless, and a lot of equipment has terrible stats and is useless except for the fact that it has some random ability on it that you don't know if you'll want or not. Examples of awful abilities include Lucky Seven, What's That!?, Steal Gil, High Tide (8 points, really?), Protect Girls, Flee-Gil ('cause you kill a bunch of enemies and then run away right?), and auto-potion. There are way more, but that's just Zidane off the top of my head. FFIX did a lot of things well, but their ability system was not one of them.

Ive played the game up untill that treasure hunter bloke turned up and was getting terra out, im going to continue further but im still not intrested to be honest, the ATB system its implemented it much too slow. Gameplay from FF4/5 surpasses it in the 2d games in my opinion. How can you form an opinion on the gameplay when you have not played more than 20 minutes? That would be like me saying the gameplay of FF13 is worse than every FF before it because all you could do is autobattle the first 15 minutes of the game.

Lots of hate for FFXIII in this thread and a few people defending it. I'm one of the haters. I believe a lot of people really dislike FFXIII because it's so linear - which is not what the "older" FFs were about; so it's really disappointing when that exploration is gone. Personally, I didn't mind the linearity so much because I just accepted that for this particular game I was playing the story they wanted to tell. I did mind the abhorrent voice acting and saccharine dialogue. FFXIII was so unbelievably emo that I eventually just stopped playing. The characters (and their names!) were ridiculously contrived wihle the story suffered horribly for the way it was told, both in dialogue and vocals - Vanille made me want to murder a puppy. Thankfully I stopped playing prior to getting my new 8-week old chocolate lab
