(Wow, this is like my first non-political thread....)
So last night, I completely changed the way I browse the internet when I finally discovered that Firefox has some awesome addons. And they do not hurt functionality.
But there are a bagillion different addons so in this thread lets list the addons we use to help those of us who are just starting know which are useful or the best.
So please these 3 things: 1. Name of addon 2. A brief description of what it does 3. Some measure of its awesomeness. If you have a ton of addons but don't use them and they aren't useful, then state that you have never used that addon.
I will start:
1. FoxTab + Show Spoiler +I find this one awesome. When you engage it with a simple button click it shows all your tabs in sort of a "iphone" like format that you can use to briefly view your tabs or find one if you have like 30 open. Plus it just looks cool and is fast. 2. Cooliris + Show Spoiler +This is used on site that support it (most of the big ones like youtube, google images, and facebook support it). Again, it shows all the pictures/videos in a very cool, fast scrolling setup. This one is definitely useful and awesome. 3. UnPlug + Show Spoiler +I haven't used this yet but I think it may be useful. It is a tool for searching for and downloading streaming video off the net to your computer. 4. AnyColor + Show Spoiler +I use this. It simply gives your browser a different look. Its ok. I bet there is a better one out there though.
So I really want to hear what you guys use and what is useful. I want to find the really good ones and I am sure lots of other people on TL will want to know as well.
Addons are found at this site: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/

The usual.. Googlebar: A google bar Noscript: blocks javascript Adblock: blocks web elements, like ads
|
Download Statusbar: Instead of opening a seperate downloads window when you download something, it has a download status bar at the bottom of the page so you can keep track of your multiple downloads easily. Soooo much better than having the download window (although you can still view it whenever you want). I love it.

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/7447 NetVideoHunter to download youtube videos, other videos, mp3s etc..
"With this add-on, you can easily download videos and music from almost any video-sharing site. For example from: Youtube, MySpace Music, Google Video, Metacafe, Dailymotion, Break, Putfile, etc... Before download you can preview videos and music in a built-in media player. It has fullsceen and video smoothing capabilities, so you can enjoy videos in fullscreen with better quality even if the website's own player don't have this features. "

My favorites:
1. Download Them All! + Show Spoiler + A built-in download manager: it features an advanced accelerator that increases speed up to 400% and it allows you to pause and resume downloads at any time.
Lets you download all the links or images contained in a webpage. When used in conjunction with the "Linkification" plug-in, you can selection a bunch of URLs and download in bulk simultaneously (fucking amazing when downloading multi-part RAR files, etc).
2. Linkification + Show Spoiler + Very simple but incredibly useful. Converts plain text URLs into clickable links. No more copy paste! Makes a great combo with other plugins, like "DownloadThemAll!"
3. Firebug + Show Spoiler +If you are a web programmer, you undoubtedly already have this installed. It allows you to inspect (and manipulate!) the underlying DOM structure of a web page. Even great for non development, like subverting poorly made web pages, eg, forcing search fields/ form fields / buttons to become enabled. Also let's you do fun stuff like this:

I never got what NoScript is for. Isn't blocking javascript going to get in the way when you're browsing? it may be safer, but it'll also be a crippled web experience. am I missing something?

Philosophically speaking, web devs should never rely on Javascript being enabled. In reality, Javascript is a common crutch used.
NoScript is nice in that it has a toggle.

ie tab
so great for those shitty sites that only work on ie like yy and shit.

iMacros + Show Spoiler +Automate Firefox. Record and replay repetitious work. If you love the Firefox web browser, but are tired of repetitive tasks like visiting the same sites every days, filling out forms, and remembering passwords, then iMacros for Firefox is the solution you’ve been dreaming of! ***Whatever you do with Firefox, iMacros can automate it.***
Gmail Notifier + Show Spoiler +The original notifier for Gmail. Supports checking multiple accounts as well as Gmail Hosted accounts.
FoxyProxy + Show Spoiler +FoxyProxy is an advanced proxy management tool that completely replaces Firefox's limited proxying capabilities. It offers more features than SwitchProxy, ProxyButton, QuickProxy, xyzproxy, ProxyTex, TorButton, etc.

Thank you for potentially saving me tons of time copy pasting bullshit links.

Vimperator Sets firefox to use vim keybindings. Also mods the appearance. Lots of configuration options. Kinda worthless if you've never used vim, but nice to not have to use the mouse once you're used to it.

Haha I assume there's an emacs analogue to that. There's a damn emacs plug-in for EVERYTHING.

menu editor + Show Spoiler + the best addon ever! (apart from ad-block) it allows to edit the crap you see after clicking right mouse button - no more useless "set as wallpaper", only the useful few
mouse zoom + Show Spoiler +
united states English dictionary + Show Spoiler +
tab mix plus + Show Spoiler +allows to do different things with tabs; actually I use it only for one thing - to get the "close tab button" both on EACH tab and at the right side of the screen and maybe undo closed tabs option
download statusbar
colorful tabs
adblock

NoScript- As mentioned, gets annoying sometimes but easy to disable on sites you visit often.
StumbleUpon- Choose topics you are interested in and click the button. It will bring you to random sites around the net that other users have submitted as good. Great for finding new cool sites, science updates, funny pics/vids, anything you are interested in really. And wasting time. 10/10 usability, 10/10 timesuck
RefControl- Blocks referer. Meh.

I literally JUST posted a blog about this on my site:
Sorry if the images or formatting gets screwed up.
+ Show Spoiler +My BlogAll-in-One Gestures + Show Spoiler + All-in-One Gestures is a mouse based gesture system that allows you to control everything in the browser with a quick mouse gesture. The thing that really makes this awesome is that you can customize your gestures. This is awesome for speedy web surfing, and especially awesome for people with a mouse that lacks a forward/backward button (like my MX518 mouse has). You hold down the right mouse button and drag in a series of directions. You can do everything from go back and forward, open a new tab, a new window, close a tab or go full screen.
AnyColor + Show Spoiler + AnyColor allows you to change the colors of your tabs, and the overall look of Firefox. Customizing the colors to, well, pretty much any colors. It comes with pre-designed themes, one of which I use. But you can customize it to any color scheme you like.
Tab Mix Plus + Show Spoiler +While Tab Mix Plus doesn’t do a lot for me, it does one thing that is a MUST have. If you’re like me, you have a ton of tabs opened up at once and having to scroll through them with the built in Firefox scroller, it takes up a lot of time and can be annoying. Tab Mix Plus allows you to have multiple rows of tabs (with a maximum that you can decide on) in addition to that you can make it highlight updated tabs or scale the tabs down to fit a certain width. It’s incredibly powerful, and I only scrape the surface of it’s features. Delicious Bookmarks + Show Spoiler + This is only useful if you use del.icio.us bookmarks — and you should be, the ability to bookmark anything and then take it with you (and share it with friends) is a great tool. This plugin allows you to quickly view your bookmarks and more importantly, bookmark a page with the click of a button. Not only that, but if you bookmark something to your browser bookmarks it will ask you if you want to bookmark it to del.icio.us as well.
Download Statusbar + Show Spoiler +One of the things that is cool about Google Chrome is the ability to view downloads in the browser without having to have that pesky downloads box open up. Download Statusbar does this, and allows you to click on it in the bottom of the browser to open the file. FoxTab + Show Spoiler + This is an amazing addon. With a quick keyboard shortcut (Control-Q by default) you can see a graphical representation of your current open tabs. Not only can you customize it to what you want it to look like (From the iTunes movie scroll look, to the giant TV monitor look that I use) but you can also sort the tabs by what site you have open. So if you’re like me and havefive google tabs open and two Life Hacker pages, you can quickly navigate to them.
PDF Download + Show Spoiler + A really simple addon that works really well, and is really easy to use. Instead of downloading to your browser each time, or automatically downloading. PDF Downloader gives you the option of what you would like it to do. Really nice if you do a lot of online PDF viewing.
Speed Dial + Show Spoiler + Speed Dial is amazing. It replaces your new tab box with a setup similar to Google Chrome. But with this you can setup different tabs, and the best part? Right click and “Open All in Tabs” will open all the windows in that tab into new windows. This is a great tool if you are doing something like checking 50 Freelancing websites, or checking all your gaming sites at once. You can have as many rows and columns per tab as you want, and as many tabs as you want as well. I put it up to as much as 20×20, but that was pretty slow and pointless. But hey, to each his own.
