-MSL 첫 진출이다.
▶프로 데뷔 이후 MSL에 한번도 오른 적이 없는데 감회가 남다르다. 스타리그에 처음 올랐을 때와 비슷한 기분이다. 그 때는 의욕이 너무 앞서 내 플레이를 침착하게 펼치지 못했던 것 같다. 이제는 흡족한 성적을 낼 때 까지 침착하게 본선에 임하겠다.
-This is your first advance into MSL.
> After the pro debut, I never climbed up to MSL, but now I am overflowing with deep feelings. This feeling is similar to when I first got into starleague. Back then, my desire to succeed was too strong, so I could not execute my play with composure. Now, until I show sufficient results, I will play calmly.
-최연성과의 경기에서 탱크 숫자에 당황하지 않았나.
▶리플레이를 보고 싶을 정도로 놀라운 물량이었다. 내려오다가 탱크부대와 마주쳤는데 내가 테란전을 하다가 그렇게 많은 탱크를 본 것은 처음인 것 같다. 그런 선수를 롱기누스2라는 힘든 맵에서 잡아냈다는 사실이 앞으로의 테란전에도 큰 도움이 될 것 같다. 자신감이 많이 생겼다. 연습 때엔 거의 이기지 못했다. 1경기는 무조건 잡아내야 진출할 수 있다고 생각했다. 오늘은 1경기 이외에 다른 맵은 한번도 연습하지 않았다. 경기전에 올 때 까지 롱기누스에서 이기는 법만 생각했다.
-In your match vs Choi Yeon Sung, you weren’t disturbed by the amount of tanks he had?
> I was amazed by the amount of tanks to the point where I wanted to see the replay. As I came down, I faced the squadron of tanks head on, but I think that was the first time in my vs terran matches that I’ve seen that many tanks. The fact that I defeated such a player on a hard map like longinus 2 will be a support in my future vs terran matches. I built a lot of confidence. In my practice matches, I could virtually never win. I convinced myself that I absolutely had to get past the first round to advance. Beside the map for the first round, I had no practice on any of the maps. Until the moment the tournament began, I thought only of ways to win on longinus.
-블리츠에서의 경기는 도박적인 빌드를 사용했다.
▶사실 그 빌드가 약간 꼬인 상태였다. 드론을 한 기를 부족하게 찍어 너무 가난했다. 그 저글링이 통하지 않았다면 졌을 것 같다. 그런데 1경기를 이겨서인지 이길 수 있다는 자신감이 충분했다.
-On your match in blitz, you used a gamble build.
> Honestly, that build was slightly misused. I unwisely sent some drones onto the wrong path, so my resources were low. If that zergling did not come through, I think I would have lost. However, probably because I won the first round, I am confident enough to feel I can win.
-연습 때 승률은 어땠나.
▶최악이었다. 준비하면서 너무 어려워 한동욱에게 상담을 요청하기도 했다. 도움되는 이야기를 많이 들었다. 연습 때 결과와 방송 경기는 분명히 다르다며 격려해줬다. 팀원 모두가 도와줬다. 특히 박정욱, 최연식, 박성진 선수가 발벗고 나서 도와줬다. 진영수 선수도 리플레이 분석을 해 주고 김윤환 선수도 조언을 많이 해 줬다. 모두의 덕분이다. 덧붙여 오늘 진영수 선수 생일이다. 내게도 특별한 날이 됐으니 특별한 '생일빵'을 기대해도 좋을 것이다.
-What was your winning percentage like during practice matches?
>It was the worst. My training was so difficult, I even requested consultation from Han Dong Ook. I received much helpful advice. He encouraged me by saying that televised games will be different than practice results. The players Park Jung Ook, Choi Yeon Shik, and Park Sung Jin especially helped me by being harsh on me. Jin Yeong Soo also helped by analyzing replays and Kim Yoon Hwan gave me plenty of advice. Everyone helped me. Additionally, today is Jin Yeong Soo’s birthday today. Since today was a special day for me as well, we expect a special ‘birthday bread’.
-2007 시즌 출발이 좋다.
▶이번 시즌에 우리 팀이 확실히 창단효과를 볼 것 같다. 비시즌에도 쉬지 않고 열심히 게임만 해 왔다. 그래서 성적이 나오지 않으면 너무 억울할 것 같다. 예전에 스타리그가 24강으로 처음 개편됐을 때 스타리그에 올랐다. 이번에도 MSL 32강 개편에서 처음 오르게 됐다. 진정한 메이저리그는 16강이라는 이야기가 있다. 첫 스타리그의 과오를 반복하지 않고 반드시 16강 이상의 성적을 내겠다.
-2007 season is starting well.
> This season, we will definitely see an effect on the rest of the team. Even during Season B, we did not rest but trained hard. It would be depressing if we did not achieve results. Some time ago, when Starleague was modified for the round of 24 was when I first got into the Starleague. This time, since they modified Starleague to round of 32, I was able to get in. There is a rumor that major leagues include up to round of 16. For the first season league, I will not repeat the same mistake, and definitely get into at least the round of 16.
