I just played around with a HotS unit tester and there where 2 things that struck me.
1) If a Widow Mine attaches itself to a unit, and that unit is killed the mine is gone.
I think that sucks. I know Blizzard is in the "Don't add to the deathball"-mentality and most likely want us to use the unit in chokes, to spot attacks and deal some damage. The thing is Terrans don't really need something like that, Sensor towers are great. Also the video shows them being used in direct combat situations, which would be pretty damn stupid as you basically would have to avoid firing at units that have a mine attached to them to not waste them. I think it would be a lot more awesome if the mines would detonate if the units it's attached to dies. That way we could get pretty intense micro battles, when one player tries to move the unit out before it can be focus fired while the other one tries the opposite.
2) Ghost Cloak has a 1 minute cool-down.
I remember Dustin Browder talking about how they are going to change how cloak works to make it more user friendly and so that you can manage your energy better. But that is not user friendly that's a fucking nerf. The way it works now is that you can cloak for up to 25 seconds for 25 energy with a 1 minute cool-down. At this rate, if you're planing on nukeing something you have 5 seconds after you cloaked to get the Ghost in position and launch the nuke and your Ghost will uncloak the moment the Nuke hits. That's pretty user unfriendly if you ask me.

What do you think about this?
What do I think? The beta isn't even out yet. That's what I think. Yes these current mechanics suck dinghole, but they won't go unchanged to release.
Well, I don't know that it needs to be said, but these are absolutely stupid design decisions that do nothing but limit top players and somehow make the game more 'accessible,' but not really, so they are lose-lose decisions.
Browder needs to wake up and realize that if you give noobs more OP stuff, they don't care if the opponent has OP stuff too, as long as they can be excited about their OP stuff, you can please noobs without limiting top players.
1) - Attach one invi widow mine to a zergling - fire a tank shot on that zergling - BOOM 200 pop zerg one shot. So no, it doesn't suck, it's just normal lol.
2) I agree on this, but we'll see when beta will be out.

This. And author of this thread must remmember that HOTS beta will be minimum half year long , like WoL beta. Now you can imagine that disscusion abouth HOTS at this stage makes no sense ?

And why ? I can ask you this ? Sc2 WoL is balanced IMO IMO at 70-80% of perfect balance stage. After 1.5 year.. its not bad IMO , compered to BW balance and time it was out for gamers.
I totally agree with you on the Widow Mine Issue. Not to mention that I strongly believe that Widow Mines will lose value after the 12min Mark. At that point all 3 races will have very simple easy ways with dealing with the mines, and that the investment of Factory Time, Resource cost, and Supply will simply not be worth it.
The Cloak change is silly. I think the issue they are trying to solve is when people forget to uncloak their units. But, what they don't know is that everyone outside of Bronze can already do this, and that the old cloak mechanic isn't going to affect a casuals decision to play this game or not. It will however piss off everyone whose into comp play.

What? I may be the confused one here but the mine goes away after the unit dies, at least according to the op. So... what you said makes no sense.
I completely agree on both points. Widow mines don't have to blow up as soon the as the unit dies, but they should blow up after 10 seconds no matter what. If the unit dies then the mine falls to the ground and blows up when its timer runs out.

They WILL if people don't voice their opinion. I hadn't heard these particular complaints before. Thus it's a new idea, asking for an opinion, so I have no problem with this being its own thread.
Regarding the widow mine thing... I think that could be fine I'd have to play with it but it seems like without that there could be some pretty insane chain reactions between mines.
With the ghost change I agree 100% that that is a fucking nerf. A minute of cooldown!? I could understand maybe 15 seconds tops. A minute is pretty silly, hasn't this unit been nerfed enough now?
